Having the ability to view users who choose to make themselves hidden, I do strongly disagree with. The privacy of the users of this site is something that we go to some lengths to protect, in fact it's our duty to do so - it's also his, whether he recognises it or not.

That is the main thing that I find quite astonishing.

As you say, everything else, including how he runs his site and chooses to fund it is down to him and him alone. Personally, I think if it was a site I got a lot of use from and he asked for 'donations' (nothing in return), I wouldn't have a problem, but seeing is he is trying to coax people into it by offering 'extras' that have no real value, out of principle I wouldn't.

But apparently, so Catherine tells me, I'm not intelligent enough to argue with them anyway, so that's the end of that one.

With regards to Jono and his charging - while I know nothing about tax implications or whatever, I think it could be very easy to take this little corner of the web we all use for granted. I have no idea how much it costs to run this place, or how much time or effort goes into it but I imagine it takes a fair amount of time. The sound vault alone must take up a fair chunk of space somewhere!

What do you mean by "privacy"? I've certainly not investigated his site so i've no idea - but if the only thing is that you can see whither or not someone is online, and this is something that is obvious when you sign up for the site, then im not too clear what the problem is.

Why do you always have to boot something horrid in.... I think you will find I was in the Shout Box chatting to people yesterday, and there was a member who didn't read my threads over & over, because he was commenting on how difficult it is to find things on here (in his view). Also, I have posted stuff on um re: Scott yesterday, which I have NOT brought onto this Site.

Because it is an option for people to use if they wish.. if that setting is then abused, what's the point in having it? And that's besides, as Chris mentioned, the privacy issues. It doesn't matter what the reason is, they've still chosen that option and as it happens, Jono appears to have had a change of heart over that particular benefit anyway.

Last time I saw, Console wasn't hidden anyway.

I'm gutted actually that the ability to see "hidden" people has been removed. By watching on-line you can quickly work out who's in contact with who via PM's, etc. It's fascinating.
