I think its posted earlier in the thread actually - but basically I'm ManU by marriage - married a large Manc, and was obliged to take more than just his name!

How does this rank in your table of paltry excuses?

It's pretty poor to be honest, but accectable as it was not for glory hunting reasons, more for love, and that's quite cute. I make the wife support the gulls whether she likes it or not, she doesn't really like it, but goes along with my little game.

Hang on - if you have exactly the same expectations of your wife, how can you rank this as a poor excuse?

I'm glad he's a Manc though, I don't think I could have coped with having to support Arsenal. Or Chelsea. Or Liverpool. Or Newcastle. Or City. Actually, I often hear it said that people from Manchester always support City, not United. Being a soft southerner, I don't know how true this is - but his whole - unfortunately huge - family is from Manchester, most of them still there - and they are all solid United. So I wonder if it is just attempted propaganda from the jealous City fans.

It is a poor excuse, and if my wife went along with it I'd acuse her of being a fickle sheep of a football fan, but alas as I said she's not interested in football...."the seagulls won today, wooo hooo" ........."that's nice dear".

I too am not sure about that Manchester statistic, but I have often heard similar. Although I do have a scummer fan here at work who often goes to old trafford. Anyway he says that in terms of post codes Man Utd have the most centrally based season ticket holders in the premiership. Not sure if it's him promoting propoganda.

Also I'd wager that it's not jealousy from City that causes the hostility towards United. Jealousy insinuates that City want to be like Utd, when in fact I think they'd want nothing less I imagine. It's just good old fashioned rivalry. I can't stand Palace, but despite them being generally more successful than us, I wouldn't swap for the world, and am in no way jealous.

Actually, I don't know what the correct description of my "relationship" with United is. I am an interested and supportive observer, because they are important to the man I love. Does that make me a "fan", a "supporter" or a "follower"? The team I actually support is Colchester, and Mr Yudster has become interested in their welfare too, and comes with me sometimes, but he is a United supporter and goes to Old Trafford whenever he can. Could it be that it is possible to support more than one team? If so, I do. If not, I support Colchester and am positively inclined towards ManU! Our little boy is going to be conflicted though, he'll end up going to Colchester games in a United top or something....

I think you've summed it up nicely there......... a Colchester fan, with a vested interest in Manchester United due to circumstance.

Well, we are away to Palace, so I assume you will be sparing a cheer for Colchester on Saturday?

To the Stafford fan, our ground is rubbish, it's an absolute disgrace, and it probably is held together by gaffer tape...... alas we have no choice. We had a nice cosey ground until the directors decided to sell it and render us homeless.....it tooken years of sharing and wrangling with John Prescott (thank you Norman Cook) but we now (hopefully) have a ground to look forward to, until then, it's the crappy athletics track for us.

Apologies for playing crap, I didn't mean it, I guess they didn't feel the need to raise their game, which I guess is explained by the 3-0 score line. You can also use this for the lack of singing.

I'm sure also the fans aren't bothered about "gay" songs, we are used to it, and find it amusing that "EVERY SINGLE AWAY TEAM" think that they are the first to come down to the south coast and sing YMCA. It's been going on for years. The note in the program is just to keep the PC people happy.

Rant response over.

As I've said, there have been hundreds of songs, numerous versions of chants with gay inuendos inserted, and thousands of "I'm so original because I'm singing gay related songs to Brighton" fans at the south coast. I can tell you're itching to reveal to me what you so hilariously sang, so go on the Stafford man..... do your worst.
