Fowler wrote:You may laugh and joke at these things and think that you are being funny but the other person might not

What's your solution then? Not to ever make any jokes? It's not like I was making fun out of you (more out of myself than anything); I can see why you may not find it funny, but I can't see why you'd take any offense from it. Is it enough for me to say that I wasn't intending to wind you up/offend you?

what's wrong with using a robust vocabulary if you have one? should people try to dumb down for the masses? sorry for being pedantic.

Right so let me get this straight...

1/ Console makes comments like that (he's not the only member that does it, but relevant to the current example), someone takes offence, and you tell them to stop being over-sensitive
however
2/ Viv makes comments that are random (again, not the only member to do this, but currently relevant), but other members taken offence (even when there is nothing, in my opinion, to be taken offence at) and suddenly there's a witchhunt where other members constantly gang up on one member.... but nothing is done about this?

I have to agree there are certain members who do come across as extremely over-sensitive, three come to mind at the moment. I for one do not take offence at Viv, however, I do find her quite tedious. She doesn't (or if she does it's extremely rare, I can think of one example from the mountains of threads she's created) create threads that generate interesting discussion. Obviously it's her look out if that's what she wants to do, but don't get uptight when people comment on that.

This board is taken far too seriously sometimes.

A couple of months ago I was seriously considering giving this Forum up. At first it was allot of fun and full of lighthearted humour, but its just getting really nasty and bitter now in places.

Exactly, seems it's OK for some members to do certain things, but not for others.

Seems to me the people commenting on it are the ones starting to take it too seriously, they obviously see it as so important they cant just ignore it or they would do.

I think generally if you disagree or find something stupid there's no harm in saying so, why would you not want to give your opinion, that's what a message board is for. If you think Viv is posting bilge, there's nothing to stop you from saying so (and I have commented that one of her threads was quite good when I thought so as well), in the same way, there's nothing to stop her posting the stuff in the first place.

Freedom of speech - but also message board harmony, it's a fine balance. I'm quite at liberty to determine who I think is being over-sensitive (and I was referring to Fowlers original hissy-fit and departure), who is being argumentative and who is having a lively discussion.

Don't like it? That's what the 'friend' and 'foe' options are for.
Like it even less? Go some place else. I won't cry.

But you'd cry if I left right? Nicola Red said I was funny the other day.

I think we're just being true to the CMS in the great scheme of things - sometimes controversial, getting mentions for all the wrong reasons, but I like that - that for me is a healthy forum. Moyles is known for his 'soap-opera' style - you know theres going to be loads of baby talk when he comes back, that sort of thing. This board has taken on a life of its own, theres no Jack n Veras or Mitchells but we do rub along healthily and vibrantly. I pride myself in knowing when to leave a thread well alone before things get tedious. I hope Flower comes back, bless him, I need his clips.

For the most part, but I cant remember letting myself carry on in a thread that wasn't lively but pedantic, maybe in the early days, but like I say i can't remember.

Is there not a new drink out (possibly from lucozade*) which is marketing itself as being "better for you than water"? I don't believe that.

*Did you know that Lucozade is "glucose" flavoured. If you ever wanted to know what glucose tastes like - buy some lucozade! This little snippet of information was brought to you by Steve Wright and his Factoids.
