I like dogs. But I prefer owning cats. Abbey is lovely. My dog doesn't seem too well today - he had a fantastic play at the beach yesterday, seemed fine - but is really not himself today. He is getting on a bit...........

Hahahaha

Topher dont be so silly, Dog people have already won Pet War I and Pet War II. You're just invading Georgia in an attempt to piss us off again as we are putting anti-cat missiles in Poland!

Nope. This is the wrongest you have ever been. Cats just do whatever they want and look at you like they are better than you. They don't interact with you unless they want something.

Dogs, while they may well be following the social structure of a pack, are a lot more sociable than cats.

Cats are plenty sociable with me. You obviously haven't met the right cats.

How does one meet the "right cats"?

One comes to my house - my cats are really sociable and very cute.

On the other hand I would LOVE a dog it's just not fair on the dog as we're out at work all day and I would worry about it being stuck inside all day. I love dogs and cats so...........

Cats will interact and be as sociable as they want to be - which is how you know that when they are so doing, its because they want to and actually "like" you, not because they want something or feel like they had better be nice or you'll throw them out of the pack.

I do like doggies, but I get a lot of reward in terms of affection and companionship from my cat, and I really have to do virtually nothing to get that. Owning a dog is a lot more effort for the same reward.

I've currently got one of each, they're both ok.

I agree that you shouldn't really get a dog if your house is empty for most of the day (like you work full time and live on your own or you and your partner both work full time.) Cats can come and go as they please.

Exactly!

As much as I would like a dog when it comes to us getting a pet for the flat, me and the mrs are more likely going to get a cat for that exact reason. It's cruel to leave dogs in on their own not just for loneliness but for bladder control. Where as Cats are more independent.

I think dogs are far more effectionate than cats.

I dont dislike cats, just prefer dogs.

Its unfair to leave a dog on its own for more than 8 hours, but up to 8 hours is ok as they sleep for most of that. Its not a bladder thing though as dogs will go through the night without peeing.

If you work full time, presumably they will be sleeping at night and then fully awake when you leave for work though.

Depends. My dog insists that all proper dogs need at least 23 hours sleep out of 24.
