Tactics would insinuate the incident was premeditated. Never forget that ireland wouldn't have been in the playoffs if not for this :

Irish players appeal for a foul, which didn't occour - they get the penalty, and go on to win a game they were losing.

The only player who has ever shown that much integrity on the pitch, to correct an official's decision is...

1-1? Poor result. Although England didn't deserve to win on that performance. They did not look like a team who can remotely challenge for the World Cup. As for Rob Green - he gets a well deserved 'lol'.

England didn't not win because of that mistake, they didn't win because they couldn't score more than one against even that decidedly dodgy defence. I suppose we could do our stock-in-trade scraping through the rounds for a bit, but I don't see us getting any further than the quarter finals even with a huge dose of luck.

I was disappointed with Uruguay's apparent lack of ambition. I hope that improves, they have a lot to offer.

I may have to watch the rest of the tournament with the sound off though, if I watch it at all. I'm one of those for whom the vuvuzela is spoiling any enjoyment of the tournament. Its sucking any atmosphere out of the matches and drowning out the supporters. Horrible.

The thing with the vuvuzelas though, is that a South African World Cup should really sound like it's in South Africa, shouldn't it - if this is part of their national identity, why shouldn't they blow them? Most of them have saved up for a long time and paid a lot of money for tickets and really, they should be able to do what they like. I mean, if we get the World Cup in 2018, will we be happy with countries from thousands of miles away calling for bans of fat blokes standing around with their tops off? Or the England supporters band and the * Great Escape (please)?

Also, this is funny.

Yeah, so we can't even beat USA.... And people are saying we could win this world cup?!?!?!? Whatever. T'was a pish-poor performance. I could have played better, blindfolded and tied up (which I normally only do on a night in with Foots).

Both England and Uruguay have disappointed me thus far, but I've had a whale (is that the right "whale"?) of a time watching the matches. The great thing about using the student union is that you are guaranteed to get at least a bit of a native crowd for each game, whichever countries are playing.

I spent the entire Friday evening hanging out with my Uruguayan and French friends, and making new ones. Mind you, no one lost that time. ;)

Oh I'm not calling for a ban at all. I really hate them, but its my option whether to listen of not. I'm not big on banning things as a rule.

Maybe its a woman thing. And i'm not intending this as a sexist joke/comment. I've found watching the games so far, I only notice the vuvutrumpets whenever my missus commented on the annoyance of it........ At any other time I was able to filter it out and get on with watching the footy.

Diego, oh -oh! Love that man - talk about hard work though! He did EVERYTHING! He's going to be dead by the end of the group stages if he carries on like that. I'll nurse him back to health though.......

Wow. Wow wow wow. Amazing match! :D I have to admit though, I can't help sort of wishing it wasn't South Africa we'd beaten in this way.

I like Uraquays flag, it has a smiley sun on it!

Forlan is a great player, South Africa played pretty shit though, it was the right result, but as you say a shame for the host nation, it would have been a dream to see them in the Final, would have been good for Africa and Football, but as it was, I was expecting a Brazil style of individual skill, but at the end of the day Mop head was rubbish.

I've convinced the Mrs. that Uruguay invented the teletubbies, and the baby in the sun at the beginning is representative of the sun on the flag.

I'm waiting for the right time to use this, but i'm not sure how.

Have you seen the Argentina flag? I can just imagine the Argentinians and Uruguayans each insisting that they invented the Teletubbies.

Mexico deserved that win, they were all over France.

You guys going to the pub to watch England tonight? I'll be at home with my Dad and other half. Not feeling hugely confident to be honest.

Me too. It puts Uruguay in an even better position as well. :)

I might actually be missing tonight's game, but I'll certainly catch England's 3rd game. I have yet to watch a match of theirs in the pub this year.
