Not any more in Scotland now these new licensing laws are coming in banning promotions and happy hours :( It'll be England next. Enjoy it while you still can......

Not at the moment. They are still trying to put the proposals thro but it'll be crap as drink will get more expensive. Plus most pubs won't even apply for a 24 hr licence. At the moment some pubs here open till 3 at the moment (same as discos) which is good but I think any later than that is just silly. I think you need a kicking out time. Some people need to be told when to go home. Plus am not impressed at the ban on promos proposed. Anyway rant over.....

They reckon theres going to be loads more trouble cause of the changes so they want to put more police out but want the pubs to pay for the officers. Needless to say a lot of landlords still aren't very happy chappies. They are even more unhappy with the 2006 smoking ban in public places.... now that is a good thing!

ive started going out drinking during the day on a saturday theres still plenty of people in the pubs and most of them have day time offers on.
all putting the prices up will achieve is encouraging more 17-21 year olds to take drugs when they go out n the older generations will just buy more cheap booze from abroad n stay in

i think it will be better if pubs can stay open for a few hours longer. the only reason i go to a nightclub is because the pubs close to early and i wanna have a few more beers with my mates and carry on talkig rubbish. at least i wont have to go to a s*tty overpriced nightclub now i can stay in my sh*tty overpriced pub.

It won't make any difference. 24 hr licencing just means pubs can open later if they want. Doesn't mean all of them will.

from what I hear, surprisingly few are even applying for licenses.

Yeah, but you don't have to. Just means the option is there if you want to take it on the odd occasion.

exactly. just because you have the licence doesn't mean you have to stay open all the time but you can open late whenever you want. it would be useful to have, and the pub could stay open later at the landlords discression for example if there was a football match on or something blah blah blah

Exactly im sure my fave pub wouldnt want to stay open cos its just a couple that run it and I dont think anyon else works in there . If they did then they would probably have to employ more bar staff

Yeah, my local, the "Ring o' Stanes", regularly does that.
