Ok so as you know I'm a bit book mad. I'm VERY excited about HP7. I'm having a huge street party outside my store in Peterborough from 6 til midnight and it's gonna be amazing.
Will you get it at midnight at one of the hundreds of HP7 parties? If so where?
Will you dress up?
What do you think is going to happen to Harry?
Who is going to die?

I could ask many more questions but am perfectly aware that you are all capable of taking this thread beyond my meagre imagination. So off you go.....

Well, I don't mean to be cruel to you personally S4B, but I understand Harry Potter is for children, and I am a grown-up now. Therefore, I've never read any of the books or seen any of the films, and I don't plan to start. :)

My cousin was something like the seventh person in Milton Keynes to buy one of the previous books. He's a bit weird though.

One headline I saw the other week "Rowling: Character WILL be date-raped in final Potter". This WAS on theonion.com though...

Oh Nicola it's so not a book just for kids it's now officially part of the cross over book genre that is great for all ages. Trust me try them and you'll get hooked.

I enjoyed the last books so I will read it pretty close to it being released, but thats coz otherwise someone will tell me what happens and ill be annoyed with that.

I have no plans to be visiting a bookshop at midnight though.

Ah, I have enough books to keep me going for years as it is so it's not high on my list. I just had three arrive in the post this week. I joined bookcrossing so I'm forcing myself to let some go, but it's difficult.

HP7? Is that what it's called in the trade? You cookie bunch you.

I am probably with Footsman on this one, I will probably read it quite soon so as not to have it spoilt by anyone. I shalln't be dressing up nor having parties though, I shall leave that for the kids.

I agree with S4B on this one, the books have got really dark and although they may be aimed at a childrens market to some level, i think you'd find it hard to read the last few books while thinking 'this is a childrens books...'
The films however are a different story.

(Actually no, they're the same story, obviously, you know i mean...)

I will read it, but after the last one I don't hold out much hopes of enjoying it. The thing that made people enjoy Harry Potter from the start is the old fashioned battle between good and evil, and the underdog versus the kingpin - and godd/underdog coming out on top. I think if the end of the series doesn't satisfy the need to have Harry win and end up happy (and she has hinted it won't), she has failed (to entertain me, not to earn millions, obviously). And I know they are books that adults can enjoy, but when she started to write them FOR the adults, rather than children (who were her primary audience after all, and the one who made her "great") they went downhill sharply in my opinion.

Actually whenever the last dvd was about to be released I bought something in WH Smith and the assistant asked me if I was interested in pre-ordering a copy. I chuckled and said "no, I think I'm a bit old for harry Potter." Shortly afterwards it occurred to me that I'm plenty old enough to have a child who would want one. Ugh.

I got Goblet of Fire on HD-DVD the other day and it was really good. I'll probably have to go and see the Order of the Phoenix now but I can't be arsed reading the books.
