Why do people feel the need to add their e-mail addresses to the bottom of their e-mails? Surely a moment's thought would mean that they would realise this is totally unnecessary? Do any of you feel a bizarre need to do this? And, if so, why?

I'm betting it's the same kind of people who wear security badges to and from work, and always bring their own sandwiches in every day (inevitably made out of cheese, lettuce and tomato).

Most people I know who do this only do it if they have multiple email addresses.

The only time I've seen peoples email address (or addresses) at the bottom of an email is when it's part of their company footer (as opposed to something they put in themselves).

A combination of lazyness and being cheap?

They may not just be being cheap, they may have a special diet, allergies to certain foods or just dislike the canteen food; there's been more than one occasion where I wished I could be bothered to make my own lunch in the morning instead of eating at the canteen.

yep, but my point everybody is that it would show up anyway... why does it need to be physically input twice... that's the mystery.

We were told earlier this year we had to had the registered office and telephone number on our works email, it was the law ? Not sure why, it always feels a shame emailing my sister all that stuff, "Kind Regards, Boboff FCCA etc"

or they could be just plain boring and not able to see beyond basic cheese, lettuce, tomato.

Is it being physically inputted twice? How often do you type your email address when emailing someone? The 'From' address is automatic, and the one in the footer could be too, it's not really that much of a mystery.

I've only just noticed these two points:
Viv 113 wrote:I'm betting it's the same kind of people who wear security badges to and from work

Maybe they also wear their work clothes to and from work and, as a consequence, the security badge is on the belt clip or something. That's the only reason I know people would do that and if they took it off, it's far easier to forget.

Viv 113 wrote:always bring their own sandwiches in every day (inevitably made out of cheese, lettuce and tomato).

What's wrong with bringing your own sandwiches in to work? Surely the lazier option is going to a canteen (if you're lucky enough to have one of them) and surely it's their business what's in it.

Well, you did ask for answers: -

I hate putting my job title or qualifications on it. I never put them on emails but occasionally I have to put my job title on letters.

I don't think you have to put job title and letters after your name Boboff, but on all correspondence (as far as I know) you have to put company registered address and company number, etc, on there. That's not a problem for too many people though, as I would think most companies already have it on headed paper and the software capabilities to automatically add a company footer, as Console says, at the bottom of the emails.

Our boss told us to start putting our letters after out names on correspondance, so we all did..... but he soon began to realise that most of us had more letters than him, so he told us to stop doing it....... he has superiority issues.

Kind Regards
