Also I've only been thinking about this a few minutes, but already I can see that this is a bold statement:

Are you saying Madonna is 'better' than (in no particular order):
  • Marie Curie
  • Florence Nightingale
  • Queen Elizabeth I
  • Joan of Arc
  • Helen Keller
  • Mother Theresa

Console would you do me a favour and take the '=' sign out of the list tag for me? I forgot. [Done]

That would be debateable as well.

She could always challenge them to a sing off and see how many others turn up.

Shes older than all of them though right? I take it she is dividing her age by seven like a reverse dog years?

Not sure I would agree there, although you can't argue with her success. She's a walking endorsement of what "making the most of what you've been given" can do, because she's not a great singer, she's not a great dancer, she's not a great songwriter, but she's packaged what she has got, worked her ass off since she was a kid and become something undeniably important in the music world.

Happy birthday Madge, and many more of them.

I thought she was older than that, doesn't stop her trying to act like she's 20 though.

You keep saying that, horse! :-) But at what point should someone just give up?

i don't know about giving up, but she should stop ripping people off. the only thing i'll give her is that she's very smart at finding the next thing to rip off. but the arrogant fake british crap, ignoring and trying to hide her roots, the fashion plate humanitarianism- it all makes her seem disingenuous and insincere to me. and her music hasn't really been good in a while. old white ladies shouldn't try to rap, it's just a fact.

better women in music? aretha franklin, carole king, joan jett, chryssie hynde, patsy cline, etta james, ella fitzgerald, hell the spice girls!

First of all, she is not old. 49 is not old! Neither does she "rip people off": she's just an exceptionally talented lady in so many ways, who just has a knack of getting it "just right". The "Confessions" album was first class, and I eagerly look forward to the next album in November!! She'll have a smash @ anything, and if it doesn't work out, she'll try something else.

She spends a lot of time in the U.K. nowadays, so naturally she will have adopted many things "British".

Singer: I love her voice: beautiful and very vulnerable.
Dancing: She was once at Uni for dancing (and is, in fact, classically trained)... her dance teacher encouraged her to move on, because there was nothing she could really be taught, which is basically how the singing pretty much came about.

Songwriting: It's from the heart, and every album is so different. The "Bedtime Stories" album is one of the most beautiful albums you will ever hear.... :-)

including the accent and trying to erase her american past? sounds arrogant to me.

and maybe you're not really with the cutting edge of music trends viv, but madonna does rip people off. she just takes things that have been underground for a while and makes it mainstream- hogging all the glory.

of course somebody who's 40 would get defensive about somebody who's 49 being called old, but call a spade a spade. 49 is middle age, which is a little too old to be spreading your legs for the whole world to see.

cutting edge of music trends? Hmmmm.... I just plain know what I like, irrespective of other people trying to tell me what I should like. If she can spot what's underground, and do it first - GOOD!!

I wasn't getting in any way mad because I am 39 and she is 49. I get mad because she's had crap thrown at her from when she was younger right up to now... doesn't matter what she does, people like you will show up and try to tear her down.

I never find she tries to erase her past in American : Lourdes father lives there still after all, and she's backwards and forwards to see him.

p.s. I don't think she's been "spreading the legs" for a while, kk!! And anyhow, I hope I will long be spreading them. Good on her!! :-)

Someone did a mock-up in the paper of what she'd look like if she wasn't famous, voguetastic.

She's not doing it first though, that's the point that Kendra was making.

Viv, that is the nature of fame. It happens to most of them.
