I need a new computer!

Now, I built my last computer, but unfortunately when moving house it got smashed to peices and I salvaged only a few bits and bobs from it

I was talking to a friend the other day and he said the other day that it would probably be better by a full system rather than building from scratch now!

Before I go hunting through scan and ebuyer etc for everything and totting up the price, I wondered if anyone else has recently built or bought a computer and if its worth the hastle of building from scratch or not anymore

thanks in advance

el Duckio!

I got a custom computer last year - the benefits are that you can have whatever you want on it, and none of the stuff you don't want. The downside, however, is that is usually more expensive this way, as the big retailers can bulk-buy and get discounts, whereas a singles person won't.

Still, I don't in any way regret customising my PC, as I would never have got the configuration I do have from a retailer.

I've built my last two PC's. I did it because A) I enjoy it, and B) I had a few components I could re use from my last system. In general it's more expensive as the large retailers have economy of scale on their side. If you don't need a monitor, keyboard and mouse, why not look at buying just a new base unit? No point replacing those bits just because they are part of the deal from a retailer.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you go down the Intel route. Core2Duo processors seem to be winning the battle at the moment, and my mid range 2Ghz processor is fantastic.
