I don't normally bother with the Oscars, but I have enjoyed films in 2008, 'The Dark Knight' was a brilliant Summer film, partly because there wasn't a Summer, just dark skies and rain. I saw someone talking about 'Alice in Wonderland' on here recently, I couldn't believe Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, Alan Rickman and friends were all working together again, as I own a copy of 'Sweeney Todd' Blu-Ray, I recommend that, and its good they're teaming up again.

Tonight brings to a close the extraordinary Heath Ledger events from when the shocking news first arose way back in January last year. I like both Batman films, Jack Nicholson was great in his own way, as was Heath - and will there will be a posthumous offering for him tonight..?

I think Heath Ledger would be the most deserving - and not just because he's dead, I half expected the film and Ledger to be crap and everyone to be talking him up because he's dead, but it wasn't like that at all. Realistically, I think if you were a betting man, you could stick your house on him winning it.

I'm pleased he got it. The other award for TDK was for Sound Editing.

Looks like it was 8 gongs for Slumdog. Winners are here:

I'm gonna get my skates on and go see Slumdog, just to see how it became the best thing since sliced bread. I am pleased for Danny Boyle, its good when real talent shines through - and why shouldn't it, with a back catalogue which includes Trainspotting and 28 days later it seems as though his whole life had been leading up to this. My favourite quote of the night was by Simon Beaufoy who wrote Slumdog - "There are certain places you never imagine standing - the moon, the South Pole, the Miss World podium and here."

Yep I will have to go see it, I'm told I would like it, which is encouraging, but I hadn't even heard of it at the beginning of the year - never mind it being up for all those gongs.

If I am reading the list right, every category where Slumdog Millionaire was nominated, it won. Is this a record?

To be honest though, I didn't think it was an amazing film. It was good but not an 8 Oscar award winner

Apparently it won eight out of the ten it was nominated for. Which is still pretty good going.

I reckon the list I looked at wasn't complete then, because it wasn't mentioend in any of the categories where it didn't win! It was nominated twice in one category I noticed, but one of the nominations was the winner there.

I love Alan Rickman! Someone put him i the beautiful people thread for me? Although he's probably not "beautiful" he is sexy and I think that counts!
