is anybody else on here watching this truly amazing show, me and the missus are obsessed plus it seems our little one loves it too, he stayed quiet for all 90 mins last night. probably more to do with the fantastic score than the brilliant acting though

What Yudster said - I've not seen these ones yet though because I'm going through the first ones with Cat to get her up to speed first.

we struggled to get Stephen to sleep earlier so we put series one on and he went quiet as the title music started, the boy has great taste in t.v. already.
Yudster you seem to have impeccable taste, Topher if you have the first series have you watched the pilot yet? how different is it the aired version? im glad they got that 30 mins extra totally changed the feel of the show, for the better in my opinion

I watched episode 1 of the first series last night (my first ever episode of Sherlock), so bear in mind that everything I say is based on one episode - and things may have been toned down in later episodes...

I thought it was brilliant, with the characters really brought to life for modern times. First impressions are that it's like a detective version of House (although it's clear that house was supposed to be like a medical version of the original Sherlock Holmes), but there are a few parallels with the anti-social personality and drug use (i'm guessing from the first episode that it's a recurring theme?).

Also the 'deduction' bit became a bit tedious, spelling things out to the audience where they could have worked it out themselves - but apart from that I thought it was amazing, and can't wait to watch the remaining 5 episodes! :)

plus, Cumberbatch is quite the fitty.

What I like about it is that even though it places the characters and the story firmly in the present, the feel and the ambiance is closer to the original books than any film or TV adaptation I have ever seen before. I think with the books in mind the detailed deducing works really well, it was a key part of Holmes' personality. I like how they have kept the drug dependance in but converted it to nicotine addiction - its the reason for it and the response to it which is important in the context of the stories. And I like how Watson is a proper, integral and important part of the stories and Holmse's degree of dependance on him is being developed. Making him a blogger rather than a writer works well too. I hope they also develop the shift in their relationship which happened when Watson fell in love, got engaged and then married and how that changed the dynamic between them. I thought the recent film with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law also did that well and I'm looking forward to the sequel of that which is out now-ish.

Loving Sherlock.

Edit: They've also got Mrs Hudson spot on, and its lovely to see Una Stubbs on telly again looking gorgeous as ever.

I've just finished the first series - I was really impressed with episode 1 and 3. episode 2 was pretty horrible and generic - not to mention awfully acted from the support cast, with AWFUL stereotypes.

looking to storm through series 2 tonight.

Excuse the triple post (i couldn't see how to delete my previous posts)

I got through all of season 2 yesterday - the finale was incredible, and I've got a few theories, but don't want to post them in case they're spoilers (anyone who's seen the finale will know the massive spoiler).

You know my dad is obsessed with Sherlock which sort of makes me not want to get into it if that makes sense? He is so obsessed he has a room dedicated to sherlock holmes it has 2 big book shelves full of different books or some the same just different editions of sherlock holmes. He is a member of The Sherlock Holmes Society and sent us Sherlock Holmes christmas cards.

I can think of some far worse things to be obsessed with, to be honest.
In fact i could get into that myself if i wasn't careful. :-D

In the meantime i'll just have to stick with lesbian porn. 8)

It was simply stunning telly, best thing since Luther.

I don't have an established theory on how he did it but on reflection, the first episode had a theme of faking your own death, the second was about hallucinogenics, put the 2 together and the fact Molly suddenly disappeared should mean something.

That or it was a Tesselecta.

I've just caught up. I'm SO pleased they're doing a series three, but I don't want to wait for it, I want it NOW dammit!

Moffat has said not to expect any more Moriarty, which suggests his death wasn't faked. I'm SURE Mollie had something to do with it, they didn't explain why he asked for her help... but that's all I've got to go on.

I've seen plenty of trailers for this but never watched it yet, and from this thread it looks like I've been missing out. I love a good contemporary adaptation of a classic story, since it helps to keep that story alive in our minds and shows classy scriptwriting and production.
