Right before I start.... The Coral are not The New Beatles. No one ever will be because the music world has changed completely. The sad fact is the legacy of The Beatles and Merseybeat has seen few successful bands from Liverpool/Merseyside appear often destroyed by the pressure no doubt.
Coming from near Liverpool I had heard a bit of The Coral and everyone seems to be pining their hopes on them (well Atomic Kitten dont do it for us all). Sample Quotes:
"The Coral can bring forward mersey music"
"they have such a new sound"
"the lead singer bloke (cant think of his name) has a unique voice" seemingly said about every band nowadays.
"they look a bit retarded an that amuses me"
Ok so the last one was me... Manchester has had a lot more successes in recent years and where is the rest to follow The Coral (who have hardly been the staggering success people thought... Jo Whiley, John Peel)
The album is a strange one I head the first 2 tracks (particularly Spanish Main) an I thought it would be great but they seem to try too much. I am all for expeimenting with sounds but if you find a good one why not stick with it for an album? (or in Oasis's case 2 then arse about). I think its a good album but nothing as good as what I had heard said an I wouldnt rush to see them in concert.

Here's to those who bore us and made us what we are
