Aled in Top 50 catches - By Matt Withers
Five Welshmen - including a radio producer from Aberystwyth - have been named among Britain's most eligible bachelors by a top woman's magazine.
The five hunks are among 50 battling it out for the title of Bachelor of the Year 2004 at a televised ceremony in London next month.
Last year's award went to S4C presenter Gethin Jones and the five are fighting to keep the honour in the country.
Among them are Aled Jones, an assistant on Chris Moyles' Radio One breakfast show. The Aberystwyth-born 27-year-old joined Radio One from television five years ago.
Still the vice-chairman of Aberystwyth Football Club, his parents used to run the famous Caffi Morgan in his home town.
He is now the butt of most of Chris Moyles' crude jokes on the breakfast show.
Aled will go up against the 49 other sophisticated single men in the ceremony at a swanky London venue next month. The competition will be broadcast on ITV with viewers voting for the eventual winner.
The annual hunt is carried out by woman's magazine Company.
Editor Victoria White said: "Our manhunters have been searching across the entire country and found some fantastic guys in Wales.
"They all have a great shot at the title and we've got so many gorgeous boys this year, I expect the live vote will be extremely close."
Llandeilo-born actor Llew Davies, who plays Mei in S4C's Darn O Dir, is also shortlisted.
Other eligible young men from Wales include a rugby star in Cardiff outside-half Nick Robinson, 21, TV presenter Alun Williams, 25, from Cardiff, and Richard Andrews, a 29-year-old architect from Cardiff.
All 50 finalists will be featured in the May issue of Company magazine, on sale April 1, 2004.
