It has been reported that Chris has lost 700,000 listeners from his afternoon show in the last year. This compares to 620,000 lost by Sara Cox in the same timeframe.
Radio 1 said the losses were partly explained by a change in the way information is gathered with fewer younger people - the station's core audience - taking part in quarterly research. A spokesman said: Drive-time shows tend to inherit the breakfast show listeners so their fortunes are closely tied. We won't really see Chris's full potential until he takes over breakfast himself.
