Predictably there was a Leeds United montage at the top of the show today. They fluked a penalty win over Swindon in the Carling Cup yesterday and Chris saw this as a cause for celebration (yes things are that bad at Leeds at the moment). Paul Robinson scored a goal and saved 2 penalties in the shoot out, so there was a montage of the commentary clips from BBC Radio Leeds, over a bed of ‘Who’s the Daddy’. Chris thinks Robinson should play up front and Mark Viduka in goal when Leeds play Everton on Sunday. Dave didn’t seem to think it would matter as
Everton would win anyway. Everton beat Stockport 3-0 last night. Chris was boiling in the studio and asked someone upstairs to go and see what was up with the Air Con. They found out that it was just switched off.
This was much to the dismay of the Jo Whiley team, who earlier according to Chris had been sitting in the studio in their Bermuda shorts and had all lost weight during the show. Chris and Rachel went out for a few drinks last night and the whole team is going to the boozer with some Radio 1 staff after the show tomorrow, to celebrate Will’s last day at the station. There was another discussion about Will’s age today. Chris said Will was retiring and not going into the TV production career he says he is. Chris said that as leaving presents he is going to buy Will a wheelchair and a stair lift. If he doesn’t want those gifts Chris offered to get Will measured up for a coffin of his choice. Chris also asked him if he’ll be reversing out of his drive without looking out now, like old people do. Will said not yet anyway. Chris asked him what time the bingo starts tomorrow as he wouldn’t want Will to be late back from the pub. Chris hasn’t got him a present yet (surprise) so he said any free PR stuff brought to the Radio 1 studios during today’s show would be Will’s to keep. Therefore much of the show today was devoted to presents for Will.
Will was sent a huge list of gifts from various companies. He received a huge box of games (including Action Men figures and the New Twister Moves game), bottles of Champagne and Red Wine, Galaxy and Mars Ice Creams, A 4 foot cardboard radio, some Baileys and some Archers, Cooking Sauce, A Toy Story Mr Potato Head toy (Chris sounded envious and said Mr Potato Head’s hair was darker than Will’s) and some stuff from (cue Graham, Norton voice:) ‘our friends at Cheapflights.co.uk’.
Will also got £5 of airport shopping vouchers (which impressed Chris) from BAA Retail, he got aftershave, lots of smelly stuff (including some female smelly stuff which Dave said he should give to Aled), A So-Real Puppy which talks, barks and and rolls along flat surfaces on wheels, some leggings/tights, intimate cream, moisturiser and a range of extra comfort ladies sanitary products which were nicked by Rachel.
The gift that most impressed Chris, Will and Aled however was a Buzz Lightyear spy listening set. It consisted of a gun, a radar and some headphones, which enables you to hear far away conversations by pulling the trigger. After some on-air experimentation it worked really well and Chris said he was considering taking it up to Parf daddy’s Office during contact negotiations. Dave didn’t seem too impressed and said it wasn’t very subtle - with it’s big pink radar and Buzz Lightyear sign. Dave was more interested with the offer of free Premiership tickets to a match of Will’s choice. Will said he might get tickets for the next Leeds or Everton match in London - and go and see it with Chris and Dave. Will said his ideal gift however would be to drive round through the streets of London on a fire engine with the siren on. Chris tried to turn this into an erotic fantasy with all sorts of mentions of Jordan and poles etc etc.
Other stuff on the show today included Chris taking the mick out of some guy from the Big Brovaz in the 3:30 News, and moaning that he wasn’t up for a MOBO tonight. The team also chatted about the news that Stuart Cable has been sacked by the Stereophonics. Chris didn’t think he was sacked because he had too many other commitments, but because Kelly was jealous of his hair. Chris offered Stuart as much free L’Oreal as he’d like to come on the show today. Chris also found Kelly’s statement a bit weird - ‘ No-one will be able to replace Stuart as a band member as he is irreplaceable. Mark Gorman will however continue to sit in on the drums for our forthcoming shows’. Dave auditioned for the new drummer slot by drumming along with his biro to All My Life by the Foo Fighters. It annoyed Chris and Will but when Chris dipped the track and gave Dave some echo, his biro-drumming sounded quite good. And of course there was the customary plug for this place at about 4. Chris asked people to vote for Rachel in the poll as she still was in 4th, despite being revealed as the new producer. Chris asked people to log on and try and crash the site again. This meant when he was looking to show Dave a picture of Will looking fat from the site, he couldn’t load it.
Chris received some sex toys and some fanny pads for Wills leaving presents. Will also got some womens thongs and suspenders. Aled was excited that Will got a Basil Brush that he made the news run 2 minutes late. Chris decided to toughen up Rachel by Get Rachel tough, by going through 4 stages. Chris threw a tirade at David Garido after he wasnt nominated for Best DJ. Steve Lamacq was nominated, must be the whitest person on the planet. Chris called the MOBO's Fattist as only thin people are nominated.
Travis will be in the Live Lounge next week, they back pedalled as they realised they hadnt mentioned it yet on any other show. Will received an invitation from the Fire Station asking him if he would like to join them in Fire Engine. This is one of Wills ambitions in life, to ride in a fire engine with the blue light on.

1. Arm Wrestling (Rachel VS Aled - Will judging, Aled moaned - Rachel won in 4 seconds)
2. Endure a tirade of abuse (he said that she got Jude points if she cried, she laughed and she got 5 points. Not the full 10 points though. She tutted which made it minus 3)
3. Shock Surprise endurance (blindfolded with a balloon bursting in her face)
4. Leg Squats (she survived it for less than a minute)

FA ALED
Very, very short today. Alex was at TOTP and So Solid Crew said they were massive fans of her. Peter smells. Fame Academy have given Carolynne and Peter a duet to sing. They are getting Lets Spend the Night Together by Rolling Stones but they are refusing because they will look stupid and it is performed in front of Peters girlfriend, or ex if Peter has his way. Charles Kennedy is a fan of Peters. He's Lib Dem leader apparantly.
