Dave went to see AC/DC at The Hammersmith Apollo in West London last night. He said it was one of the best gigs he’s ever been too and probably in his all-time top 3. During ‘you shook me all night long’ Dave rang Chris so he could listen to them. Chris saved the call and played it out on the air. You couldn’t hear a thing as it was really muffled but Dave assured Chris it was fantastic. Dave had a guess who from the gig. It was Brian May from Queen and after about 5 minutes of guessing wrongly Chris resorted to reading guesses coming in from the texts and surprise surprise got it right. Dave also saw the foxy Sarah Cawood and the not so foxy and short-lived Live and Kicking presenter Steve Wilson last night.
There was a Weight Watchers update on Rachel’s progress. She had her latest weigh-in this morning and has lost a pound this week. That’s a total of 9 pounds in 6 weeks. She’s aiming to lose 2 stone by Christmas. It was Chris’s first night off the booze last night. He’s going to the pub to meet some mates tonight and watch the first half of Rangers - Man U, although he said he’ll be drinking tea. The plan is to stay ale-free until a week tomorrow but as it’s the Leeds-Man U Carling Cup game on Tuesday Chris said he thinks he’ll need a drink.
Following this he analysed his and Rachel’s current weights (without saying how much she weighs) and said for some reason Dave is concerned about his as well. Dave said he’s not really, he’s just using it as an excuse to
eat Rachel’s special Weight Watchers chocolate crispy-cakes that he likes. Chris said Rachel isn’t really huge, just huge. Dave said the audience think Rachel is a style icon and said there were lots of texts asking for pictures of her because they think she’s fit. Chris said it’s not a great idea as he doesn’t want to disappoint the audience.
Chris said the first half hour of today’s show was like the first half hour of the old Saturday show, chat about booze and weight. There was a problem in the newsbeat studio involving a courgette today. George said there was one in there until on closer inspection she said it was a cucumber. Chris asked where she was holding it and she said in her right hand. Chris sighed and said Rachel might need to play a few records back-to-back. Dave asked if Chris needed the lavatory but Chris told him to stop being so coarse. Rachel went to see Jerry Springer The Opera last night. She said it was really rude, really funny but generally very weird. The link suddenly broke out into a bit of impromptu opera singing from Dave, Chris and Rachel. It wasn’t easy on the ear let’s put it that way. Trevor Nelson (nice guy no hair) popped in to say hello. Chris said he stunk of the land of leather.
The 78 Days of Christmas - the 2nd finalist is Inverness. Gerry Reynolds from The Council was on to promote their bid. He was a very happy Geordie with a slightly concerning love for Inverness. His 30 second audience plea was perfectly fitted to the Countdown music and included offers of giving Chris and the team kilts, haggis and frostbite if they visit. Today was Gerry’s 4th wedding anniversary and to celebrate him and his wife are going to see Kill Bill tonight. A very romantic couple obviously. There’ll be a third finalist on the 78 Days of Christmas tomorrow. After that, we’ll get to choose (presumably by text) where Chris and the team switch on the Christmas lights this year.
The Radio 1 Mystery Afternoon Sound today was a telephone and Michael from Belfast won the coveted 25 pence prize. He said he’d spend the money on a holiday. Bridlington again presumably. Mrs Vitty is away for a couple of days so Dave is thinking about watching his Dukes of Hazard DVD boxset after the match tonight. He said he needs to go shopping though.
Chris said Dave goes shopping virtually every night and never gets a big shop. Dave said he just forgets. Chris said that when he goes to do a big shop he never writes a list so always ends up buying far too much chicken soup, cans of baked beans and toilet roll - forgetting he’d done the same the previous week.
Tonight is the Rangers - Man U match and Chappers and Disco Dick (ex Saturday producer Richard Murdock) from breakfast have flown up for the game. Chris spoke to Chappers on the phone twice. They were in the pub unsurprisingly - and with Edith Bowman even more unsurprisingly. Chappers and Dick are both going in the away end while Edith has posh seats. Chappers said it was Dick’s first ever football match and he doesn’t quite understand the rules. He predicted it’d be 10 all.
Chappers also told Chris that he’s never been to Elland Road as he doesn’t feel safe there. Chris said that if someone wants to fly him up to the Leeds-Man U Carling Cup game next week then he’ll take Chappers with him. Chris said he wouldn’t mind flying up for tonight’s match if any helicopter firms were listening. Dave said he’d come as well. Rachel said she’d like to but Chris said ‘the helicopter won’t be that powerful love’. As for the match tonight, Chris’ll be supporting Rangers, Dave’ll be supporting football (Rangers) and Rachel will be watching Corrie. Chris was sent another two Mini Pops Quizzes today - a football shirt one and a football ground one. Chris was crap at both and needed to ask sport monkey David Garido for help. One of the grounds read out by Dave that Chris didn’t get was Gigg Lane, home of the mighty Bury FC (my team so had to mention it in the review). In the end Dave provided Chris with about 10 correct answers, which miraculously meant Chris managed to beat Dave with the help of Chappers. Dave got in a right mood with them both. Chris said Chappers could have £20 for helping. He said he wanted the £50 from his bet with Chris last season. Chris said the line was poor and said to Dave he’d thought Chappers had forgotten about that.
