The big big news from today’s show is that Chris’s campaign has worked. Mysterious Girl by Peter Andre IS to be re-released by Eastwest Records on Monday 23rd February. So what started as a bit of a joke has spiralled out of all control and now Andre is apparently going to be “Back in the charts and Back in our hearts’. Chris thanked Damien and Jasper at Eastwest for all their hard work sorting it out and the 40 000 people who texted in on Tuesday saying they would buy it. Dominic rang up Peter’s dad (who he talked to on Wednesday) to tell him about the news. He was really chuffed but still seemed pre-occupied with asking when the team were going to go over and stay at the Andre Australian residence. He told them to avoid the last week in February as he is going seeing his youngest son get married 20 000 miles away - but anytime from the 1st of March onwards was fine by him. Dom thanked him and said to Chris that he was a really lovely bloke. Chris said the same thing about Peter himself, saying he was a nice fella and very harmless. Dave agreed he was nice when he came on the show years and years ago but he now thinks he’s hugely arrogant and has a massive opinion of himself. Chris thinks Andre will be pleased Mysterious Girl is being re-released but I’m not so sure. Read the report on it here. After 8:30 Dave and Chris took the piss out of him and Mysterious Girl with their Aussie impressions and of course the odd “bonza”, “ripper” and “I’m stoked” thrown in for good measure. Chris still hopes Greyhead’s abysmal mix of Mysterious Girl will be included as one of the extra tracks on the CD Single. Later on Friday night’s Top Of The Pops, Chris was shown talking about why he wants to get Mysterious Girl re-released - saying you can forget your Will Young’s and your Robbie Williams, “We need artists with longevity in the charts”. Today was the final day of Radio 1’s Best Of New British Music Week. From the big list of eleven to watch for 2004, Chris played Franz Ferdinand and a new record by Joss Stone called Super Duper Love which was absolutely superb. As was today’s Buzz Off tune. It was Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles. Nobody buzzed in at all apart from Aled, a second after the song had finished for comedy value. Chris was playing it off their number ones compilation album One and couldn’t decide what tune to play. 650 people disgracefully texted in to say Buzz Off and one even said that the Beatles were vastly overrated and only successful because all other 60’s music was rubbish...
Chris - Yes cos if the Beatles had been around in the 80’s then Spandau Ballet would have wiped the floor with them...
The most ironic thing of all was the fact that Chris followed Eleanor Rigby by playing Like Glue by Sean Paul. Dave summed it up perfectly - “Light and Shade”.

RADIO 1 IN IBIZA 2004 - DJ SAMMY INTERVIEW:
Yep it may come as a huge surprise to you but Radio 1 is breaking with tradition and going over this summer to....Ibiza. Shock horror. Chris talked about how the breakfast show team were all fans of different types and styles of music, but without a doubt their favourite (for the purposes of today) was DANCE. Chris said that the reason R1 send their dance posse over to Ibiza is because dance is apparently quite popular over there...
Chris - Then there are other genres of music that wouldn’t go down well in Ibiza...
Dave (interrupting) - Folk?
Chris - What?
Dave - Folk?
Chris - No I’m busy, maybe later..
(Dom, Chris and Dave laugh)

The dates for this summer are Friday 6th, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th August. The usual suspects will all be there - Pete Tong, Fergie, Judge Jules, Seb Fontaine and the one and the only...Mr Dave Pearce. Last summer was of course the year that Chris and Dave took the White Isle by storm - and talked on the afternoon show to the truly “Amazing” DJ Sammy. He was live on the phone (coincidentally from Ibiza) at 7:45 to talk about this summer. Dave recalled the time they played the bongos together and Chris offered himself and Dave to Sammy as warm up DJ’s for his gigs at Es Paradis, which are every Tuesday starting the 22nd of June. Sammy is currently in the studio working on an album that will be the soundtrack for the new Ibiza movie It’s All Gone Pete Tong. The two funniest things for me in the interview were the fact that DJ Sammy wished Chris & Dave a happy new year (on the 6th of February) and the fact that DJ Sammy’s laugh bears a canny resemblance to the laugh of Lee Harvey, him out of Carpark Catchphrase fame.

Dominic was having a bit of trouble with his cans today. During the 7:00 news he announced he’d had a “Mid Bulletin Headphone Collapse”. He said he looked like a bassett hound, one of those big dogs with droopy ears...
Juliette - No they’re better looking than you are
Everyone else - Ooooh
Chris - There’s no need for that
Dominic - That’s very harsh canine humour
(Dave and Chris laugh)

Chris said he’d had a very busy week and was looking forward to this weekend. Dave asked if he’d been back to the gym this week. He said no because he doesn’t like the bloke there and finds him creepy (the guy in question isn’t Jono Coleman BTW). It’s over a week and a half since Chris went and even then it was for just half an hour. Dave asked why he joined in the first place if he wasn’t going to go. Chris said because he hoped the thought of paying out money each month would give him the kick up the backside he needed to get fit again. Dave said it evidently hadn’t. Chris told Dave to shut it and said he might go to the gym today. Chris is having a nice relaxing weekend at home with Sophie this weekend, Jules is reporting on Derby v Cardiff for 5 Live, Dave is sitting on his arse watching the results come in on Ceefax, Dom is going up to York to see friends and Rachel is going clubbing. Despite replaying Dominic’s highly unoffensive Geordie song all show again, Chris had a new song to focus his attentions on. It was the remix of I Love Horses by message board member Diffusion UK (aka Sheldon) that is currently featured in that TV ad. You can hear it by downloading it from Diffusion Online. Chris played it full around 9:10 and apologised. Dave said his favourite text that had come in simply read “Oh Dear”. A text came in from Mark in Cardiff asking what Aled was doing on the box last night. In his role as WawFfactor judge, he was a guest on the live Welsh entertainment magazine show iDot on S4C. Aled did a pilot for the show a few months back, where presenter Rhydian found out about his “secret skill” - the fact that he can dance like a prat. Aled knew that Rhydian would ask him again and after the house band struck up a Michael Jackson esque beat, Aled got down to his groovy moves (but no moonwalk). Chris hadn’t seen it so asked Aled to do a bit of live dancing in the studio to I Love Horses. He duly obliged. Chris found it hilarious and Dave pronounced it as “One Of The Strangest Things I Have Ever Seen”. Chris said it was like Camp Robotics and Rach suggested they recorded it and put it on the website. Aled wasn’t so keen.

RUN YOUR BRITS OFF:
The Brits are less than two weeks away now and next week on the show Chris has a big competition giving someone the chance to be a runner at them for 3 whole days. He stressed that it is not a VIP showbiz prize and you will genuinely be working your arse off backstage. As the competition is quite complicated and hard, Chris and Dave did an on-air pilot after 8:30. Dave was the caller and placed into “The Virtual Brits Backstage Simulator”. The idea is that Chris reads out facts for around 20 seconds e.g “The Darkness are in dressing room 4”, “Beyonce only drinks Diet Coke”, “Remember to wake up 50 Cent for his sound check at 3:30” etc. Then Chris asks questions for roughly the same amount of time about what he’s just said. Dave did really well (he scored 6/9). He tried to use a piece of paper to write stuff down on but Chris runs through things so fast that he couldn’t get much down and as a result it’s basically a memory test. There will be a round each day next week between 8:30 and 9 with the big winner announced on Friday’s show.

CARPARK CATCHPHRASE:
LEANNE A student nurse from Eyemouth in Scotland 2
LEE HARVEY The Carpark Catchphrase Leg-end from Colchester 0

Lee was invited back for one last day as he’s like one of the team now. He said hello to everyone individually and thanked them for letting him come back for Day number 4. Chris said he had made a compilation of all Lee’s best bits from the week - it consisted of Lee saying “good morning nation” and lasted 4 seconds. Lee said it doesn’t matter as he’s been on Listen Again and made a CD of all his best bits anyway. Lee didn’t go out the way he would have liked to though as he got beat 2-0...
Lee - You know Rachel...your lovely Rachel, was she the one in Loaded or FHM magazine a couple of years ago?
Chris and Dave - No that was Lizzie
Lee - Oh was that Lizzie? I was just thinking last night and I remember you talking about it a few years ago...
Chris - Rachel has been in a magazine but it’s a Weightwatchers magazine....No...Oh What Rach? What?
Rachel - I haven’t reached that level yet
Dave (laughing) - She’s still waiting for that cover shoot
(Everybody laughs)

Daves Tedious Link
Manic Street Preachers A Design For Life - The Manics have a lead singer called James as do Starsailor - Starsailor are from Wigan along with Richard Ashcroft and Kym Marsh - Kym Marsh is married to Jack Ryder - The Ryder Cup is a prestigious event on the annual golfing calendar - Calendar Girls was a big movie last year starring Julie Walters and Helen Mirren - If you combine Mirren with the word “Saint” you get St Mirren who are from Paisley - Paisley Park is a recording facility that is owned by Prince - Prince had a 1984 hit with When Doves Cry - Other famous musical references including the word “Cry” include Human Cry, Cry Me A River and Boys Don’t Cry by The Cure - The Cure are fronted by Robert Smith - Robert Smith shares the same surname as Delia Smith who supports Norwich City - Norwich City are nicknamed The Canaries - Canaries and Pit Ponies were traditionally used in the coal mining industry - Coal mining takes place underground and for those people involved it is their world - So I suppose you could say it is their underground world or indeed their “Underworld” - Which links us to Underworld and Born Slippy

FLAW
* The Ryder Cup is not an event on the “annual” golfing calendar as it’s every 2 years
