Tomorrow morning the show will be coming live from Southampton and in tribute to that fact, Chris and Dave have been working on a potentially award winning song with a Southampton theme. It’s Two Ronnies-esque, they sing alternate parts of each line and it’s sung over the cheesy music that Will gave them the other day. Here’s a sample of some of the lyrics so far (Chris said it was still a work in progress)....
“Down in Southampton, where I met a lovely girl,
Down in Southampton, with her hair a bun and curls,
Well her father is a docker and she’s got some lovely knockers,
You can meet a lovely lady down in Southampton”

The team are all travelling down to Southampton by train this afternoon, except for Dave who is having to drive down later. Tonight they will be on the lash with Scott Mills as their guide, all wanting to enjoy a good few drinks and a sing song - apart from Aled who is after a bloody big punch up apparently. Chris played out clips from listeners advising them on where to visit in Soton tonight. There was one from Dave Pearce soundalike James plugging the 80’s night that I was mentioning yesterday, hosted by a 4ft Saudi Arabian Simon Le Bon lookalike. There was also one after 8:30 that was so cheesy, tacky and local radio-like that it had Dave in hysterics. It was plugging a night at Lennons and featured a bloke and two women reading from a script in the most obvious way possible. Aled will be out and about in Chris's truck tomorrow morning and a text came in saying it had been spotted on the A1 in Yorkshire. Chris said he can’t wait to drive down the streets of Southampton in it after the show tomorrow, past all his adoring public with their home made placards out...saying “We love you Chris Mimms”.
Chris - I really can’t wait to be out meeting all the friendly happy people of Southampton - to shake their hands...or at least wave at them from the enclosed VIP area that is cornered off
(Dom and Juliette laugh)

Chris and Dave went to the pub yesterday afternoon for a little teatime aperitif and they were discussing the fact that Jon Culshaw’s new ITV1 show was on later for the first time at 10pm. Dave then proceeded to completely forget about it and went to bed after the football at half past nine. Rachel also missed it but has seen the yellow and blue ITV idents with Jon as George Bush. Chris and Aled were the only members of the team to actually see the show as both Dom and Jules forgot as well. Chris didn’t give his opinion on the show so I’m guessing that like me he wasn’t that impressed. The Ozzy Rules Football was the best bit by far. Aled was feeling a bit sleepy this morning and Dave said that he was standing with his hands on his hips like a tired teapot just before Buzz Off. Aled wasn’t impressed with Daves comment. Neither was he particularly impressed by Chris’s choice of Buzz Off tune today - Born Of Frustration by James from February 1992. He was first to buzz on 2:06, the listeners were next on 3:36, Rachel followed on 4:00 and Dave right on the end at 4:32. He said it was a superb record and it reminded him of the time that him and Chris went to see them in London, which is still one of his favourite ever gigs. Chris said it reminded him of the time he was up in Middlesbrough doing a Radio 1 Roadshow one year. Late on a Sunday night after playing pool and drinking with Jamie Theakston, Chris headed back to his hotel room and on the way saw the members of James (the headlining band the next day) having a huge scrap.

MAKING YOUR MIND UP - ALED’S GUIDE TO EUROVISION:
ImageImage
After the nil points debacle last year it seems the BBC have decided to try and put a bit more effort in regarding the Eurovision this time around. Saturday is “Making Your Mind Up” day and on both BBC1 and BBC3 there will be live performances, voting and reaction to the announcement of this years UK entry. Aled’s job was to sell the show to Chris and at 7:45 he ran through the six UK contenders, with Chris playing snippets from each song.

THE CONTENDERS:
1 ENRAP-TURE// They are Kelly, Mercedes (really) and Stacey from Oslo, Copenhagen and Nottingham...very british. Hear song here (Real One needed).
2 JAMES FOX// A Fame Academy reject. Aled said the elderly will love this one. Hear song here (Real One needed).
3 HAIFA// A cute singer from East London. Aled asked Chris and Dave if they remembered her from Pop Idol 1, hence piss-take “oh yeah...of course”. Hear song here (Real One needed).
4 HAYDON// Child star of Ultimate Chaos and more recently of Reborn In The USA. Chris and Dave hope he wins. Hear song here (Real One needed).
5 MADISON TAYLOR// Very foxy lady indeed (from Newport in South Wales) but the tune was a bit rubbish. Hear song here (Real One needed).
6 HYRISE// Bye Rise. One member used to be in 3SL - says it all. Aled interviewed them and said they were nice guys and big fans of the show though. Chris played a clip of them blatantly sucking up to the show in an attempt to get support, which him and Dave found very funny. Hear song here (Real One needed).
Aled - Actually if they get through they’ll be the first boy band to be entered
(Chris and Dave burst out in to laughter)
Dave (still laughing) - Not strictly true
Aled - What have I said?
Chris - Doesn’t matter
(Dave starts laughing again)

Making Your Mind Up On TV - This Saturday with Terry and Gaby at 6:35 and 9:00 on BBC1 and with Paddy O’Connell and (cue Bo Selecta Voice) Lorrrraaaaine Kelly at 7:35 and 9:30 on BBC3.

Chris had a UK exclusive first play of Avril Lavignes new record Don’t Tell Me on the show today, albeit 40 mins late after a screw up by the music department. It was fairly good (very Alanis like) and it’s bound to grow on me more over the coming weeks. Dave announced off the air that he thought it had hit written all over it and predicted it will be played everywhere....but not on Radio 4, Classic FM or in Vera Moyles’s kitchen after Chris questioned that statement. Soon after Chris played Toxic by Britney and he revealed that he has recorded a parody of it, but he’s not allowed to play it on air for reasons he couldn’t go in to (banned by the suits upstairs then). Chris decided that because the listeners were missing out, he should sing live over the instrumental and make it up as he went along. Because of the lack of words that rhyme with Toxic, Chris sung about being car sick. He said it was actually ruder than the one he did originally. Chris had other half rhymes with Toxic - Got Sick, Pritt Stick, Cheesy Wotsits, Chopstick and Sandi Toksvig (although he wasn’t sure that was 100% target). Other stuff on the show today included 5000 very sad people texting Chris the word “bottom” just because he wanted them to and there was also international tig talk to end the show as the team were in the middle of tig off ground with Juliette ending the show as last to be tigged.
NEW JINGLE: > > > ”Chris Moyles is on the air, he’s the man with all your needs,
He loves to make you happy and he wants to play for Leeds,
Because of Chris’s voice you’ll wake up feeling smiley,
He’s thin and strong and thick and hard and fancied by Jo Whiley,
