It was a very busy show today and Chris had plenty to get through. Aswell as Buzz Off, Tedious Link and a special edition of Carpark Catchphrase with VIP Homelands tickets to be won, there was also all of the following on the show this morning - Where’s Aled, Davina McCall live on the phone, Gunther from Friends speaking to Dom, the first ever play of the new Girls Aloud single and more Black Friday build up to last ever Friends and new Big Brother tonight on Channel 4. It all kicked off with a brilliant Buzz Off 90’s tune @ 7:20, chosen ahead of one from the 80’s - Wings & Paul McCartney with Jet. It was Slide Away by Oasis (1994), which was track 10 on Definitely Maybe but never actually released as a single. Chris was proud cos he did have a promotional copy of it as a CD single. Definitely Maybe has been voted the greatest British album of all time btw - see here. The full 6 mins 21 seconds was played, with only Dom buzzing in early (on 4:32) as he had to go sort out the news. Dave said Chris had gone from the worst Buzz Off track ever (So Easy by Röyksopp) to the best Buzz Off track ever, in the space of just two days. I’m not so sure about that but I do know that I’ve been waiting for an Oasis track to come up on the show now for a couple of months, and then two have come along in two days (Dave picked Wonderwall as yesterday’s Tedious Link). Next up was that Girls Aloud exclusive first play. Their new single “The Show” is out at the end of June and Chris played it at around ten to 8. To be fair to Girls Aloud they do have a couple of decent tracks in their repertoire, but this isn’t another. It was utter garbage. Chris and Rach did the usual sycophantic lovey dovey stuff on the air, but Chris said she had changed her tune cos when the mics were down during the record she was calling them “talentless rubbish”. True - certainly on the basis of this song anyway. They’re all still fit though so the music doesn’t really matter much in the grand scheme of things. There was more stickers, exam and crisp chat in the first hour of the show today. Dom’s wife now wants a sticker book, Chris wanted the actual definition of “humanities” and Dave and Dom argued over the best type of crisps. Dave said Dom’s choice of Salt & Vinegar discos doesn’t count as they are actually “reformed potato snack discs” and not actually crisps. I’m just pleased Chris didn’t do a text poll on it.

There was also a brilliant link at ten to nine, as Chris had a go at his mum for trying to use his breakfast show as some kind of personal message board. Chris told a little tale of how he’d wanted to get into radio since phoning up his local station as a kid, then the tale of how he’d worked his way up in the industry to where he was today on The Radio One Breakfast Show, as he said “at the top of my tree”. However, none of this seems to care to his mum Vera, who was after Will Young tickets (with backstage passes) today - as well as mentions for Maureen, Paul and her sister May. May was doing her ironing, Paul is her traffic warden and Maureen saved her some ointment at the chemist. Just like last week, the show turned into a mini forum as Rachel took the opportunity to say hello to her dad, her friends Carolyn and Cathy, and her cousin Katie in LA (who’d be listening again online). Dave said hiya to his mum and Radio 1 Doctor Mark Hamilton, who was driving to Newquay with all of his hippie friends. Chris said hello to his dad too, who’s now been moved from the Intensive Care department to the High Dependency Unit at the hospital in Leeds.
Chris - Anymore for anymore? (studio door opens)
Dom (off mic) - Can I say a quick hello to my grandad Jimmy?
Chris - Jesus (Rach and Dave laugh as Chris plays Avril Lavigne)

LAST EVER FRIENDS - CHRIS’S MUSICAL TRIBUTE:
So tonight is the night then. It’s the last ever episode of Friends on Channel 4 and it’s a sad, sad occasion (and I’m not being sarcastic btw - I’m a big Friends fan). Chris said he was gutted and Dave said his wife was absolutely devastated. Rach saw the last episode when she was out in LA, but didn’t say anything to anyone in case she spoiled it for them. Chris said he was so sad at the thought of Friends ending that he was going to sing a song about it.
Dave - What just impromptu?
Chris - ...no just me on my own
(Dave pig squeal laughs as Chris tells him to be quiet)

The song was very funny, and Dave described it as “beautiful dude”. Here’s just a couple of lyrical snippets from Chris’s little tribute:
1 : “Friends, I watched you as I lay in bed, laughed when Joey got a turkey stuck on his head”
2 : “Friends, I’ll keep watching my favourite bits, still Big Brother’s back, I’ll see more ti..(song skips as if it were vinyl)
Friends, If I was rich you’d see, I’d buy everyone of the DVD’s,
So here the story ends, cos there is no more Friends, like Friends (fades)

*sniff*

After the 8:30 news Chris played the opening Rembrandts theme tune, but Dave was the only one who attempted to do the infamous clap and he somehow managed to fluff it up by coming in late.
(all laugh) Chris - That was rubbish!!
Dave (laughs) - Do it again cos well, I didn’t get my hands up in time...so to speak
Chris - Calm down Aled!! (hits theme again, which this time everyone claps perfectly to)

WHEN DOM MET GUNTHER:>>>>
Dom - We were given an interview with a leading cast member of Friends, so everyone was very excited...and then Gunther walked in
(Chris and Dave laugh)

James Michael Tyler is his real name, despite the fact that Dom kept referring to him as James “Martin Tyler”, who’s the famous Sky Sports commentator. James came across as a really nice bloke, although slightly robotic. To be fair he played along with Dom’s questioning and answered everything thrown his way (none of which involved Friends incidentally). We found out that he speaks German and has a bit of bad blood with The Hoff over there. We also discovered that his favourite cheese is Havarti and his favourite Back To The Future Movie is the original.
Dom - What sort of quality was it in the first one that really drew you in?
James - Well y’see what happened is that they went back...and then they went to the future. That’s what really did it for me

Borderline genius. Obviously James has been furiously collecting Euro 2004 stickers (that goes without saying) and he too has been finding a bevy of Bulgarians in each packet he opens. Dom was very generous in giving him a free packet to open on the air, which he duly ripped into. If anyone actually cares (and I very much doubt it), then in that packet he got numbers 282, 147, 216, 159 and 62. James also kindly recorded a set of 7 drops for the show, announcing himself as himself in the first one, then saying the following in the other six - “Hi this is *insert name* and you’re listening to The Chris Moyles Show”. Chris therefore had jingles from Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Courteney Cox Arquette, Lisa Kudrow and Jennifer Aniston to play out all the way THROUGH the show this morning.

DAVINA McCALL LIVE ON THE PHONE:
Image
Straight after Friends tonight it’s the big launch of BB5 on Channel 4, and friend of the show Davina McCall joined Chris live on the phone to chat about it after nine o’clock this morning. She was just literally getting ready to go into the car and set off to work. She revealed to Chris that : - the new house will be much smaller and more difficult to live in this year, there will be no zebras or chickens in the garden, she hasn’t seen the diary room chair yet and that she’ll be wearing a black suit and black knickers tonight. Chris said that would make a change then as she’s usually known as “Commando McCall” to those in the industry. Chris and Dave complimented her on how she’s looking at the moment (well she’s not preggers for a start) and she said that the two of them are geniuses on the breakfast show. Chris said it was more him who was the genius though and he said he just thought of Dave as his assistant. Davina said it was an equal thing and Dave said that he thinks of himself as navigator in the passengers seat as Chris drives the car. Chris wanted to chat off the air to Davina about her marine trainer, who she’s trying to make him train with. Chris said he’d have to ring her back though as he had to go to the news. He assured her that he’ll be watching the show tonight though, as him and Sophie are having a bit of a Friends and BB party (preceded by Chris’s bessy mate Dermot on BBLB of course). Because of this long interview, a rambling and argumentative half time segment, plus a longer than usual round of Carpark Catchphrase...Chris played just six songs in the final hour of today’s show (five excluding Tedious Link). At one point the show went roughly 25 minutes without a record. Not always a bad thing but sometimes the links really do drag on and you rapidly lose interest in them (like today).

WHERE’S ALED: DAY 5>>>>
ImageImage
(Aled and today’s winner Adele @ Elland Road)
PASSWORD - “Forget Friends, I want to go to Portugal”
LOCATION - The Theatre of Disasters, Elland Road in Leeds (by Billy Bremner’s statue if you want to get even more specific). Dave called it “one of the best stadiums in the First Division”
CLUES - In an English city 140 km from where he was yesterday. Located in a car park by a motorway, in a city voted the UK’s Number One last year, and a place that achieved city status in 1893. It also shares it’s name with a town in Alabama, USA.
WINNER THROUGH TO THE AIRPORT FINAL - Adele, a jolly 30 year old Leeds lass who said she was late for work as a result of legging it to Elland Road. Aled was ashamed of Chris for not guessing it was his home patch from the clues he had given. Chris told Aled to pop by and see his dad in hospital. Aled wasn’t so sure though. He didn’t think Chris’s dad would particularly appreciate him bouncing in with a bunch of flowers going “Hiya!!”.
TEXT WINNER - Dan from Cambridge was the lucky texter called back by Chris to qualify for the big Euro 2004 airport final in a fortnights time. He was randomly selected from all the people that correctly guessed Aled’s location this week, before anyone found him in person. To enter next weeks draw then just text WA (for Where’s Aled), then a space, where you think he is, another space and then your name and town, and send it to 81199. E.g “WA Leeds Jim in Doncaster”.

**Aled, Chris, Dave and Aled’s travel companion “lady Paul” all got the giggles at 8:15 as Chris did a Little Britain Emily Howard *I’m a lady* impression. Paul went particularly hysterical and Chris said to Aled that it sounded like they were having a good time...
Aled - We’re having a ball
Chris - Oh (laughs), eh Paul be careful!!! (Chris impersonates Aled) “One at a time Paul”!!
(Dave, Aled and Paul laugh)
**

CARPARK CATCHPHRASE: (With VIP Homelands tickets up for grabs today)
STU a part time builder and motorbike driver from Crewe 2
MICK a HGV driver who delivers cookers from Blackpool 1

RACHEL WEIGHTWATCHERS UPDATE
We’ve not had one for a while so here’s a quick 2 week update. Rach lost 4.5 lbs last week but stayed the same this week. Dave said “it’s a non mover” in a cheesy Chart DJ stylee.

Daves Tedious Link
Oasis Wonderwall - A wonderwall shouldn’t be mistaken for a wonderbra, which is a device used to maximise a woman’s physical qualities - Qualities are a good thing, which can also be seen as assets - The word “assets” shares many of the same letters as the word “stetson”, which is a type of large hat worn by cowboys - Despite their name, cowboys are more likely to ride horses than cows - Cows are the cheap producers of milk in this country - Countryfile is a show you’d associate with John Craven - Craven Cottage is the home of Fulham FC - Fulham FC are managed by Chris Coleman - Chris Coleman is Welsh, like Catherine Zeta Jones - Catherine Zeta Jones has a son called Dylan - Dylan was a character in The Magic Roundabout - The plural of roundabout is roundabouts, which are a common feature on the roads of modern Britain - Britain was the home of the industrial revolution - Revolution was a big hit for The Beatles* - and the Beatles back catalogue is owned by Michael Jackson - Which links us to Michael Jackson and Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough

*TEDIOUS LINK CHAOS @ HALF TIME:>>>>
Dave’s link caused a great deal of disagreement in the studio today, particularly over his claim that “Revolution was a big hit for The Beatles”. The debate was such that Chris decided against Dave doing the old ready to ramble pre cursor. Dave said that his link was watertight (and a great record) but Chris bet him a fiver that it contained at least one inaccuracy. Dave sang the lyrics of Revolution in acapella stylee but when Chris searched for it on http://www.everyhit.com/ he couldn’t find any track called Revolution by The Beatles. Dom also added fuel to the fire by claiming it was just a John Lennon track (entirely wrong). Chris said Dave looked foolish and owed him a fiver. Vitty was adamant however and daytime BA Jocelyn (Aled’s cover this fortnight) brought in The Guinness Book Of Hit Singles so Dave could investigate. After the next record...
Dave - Ahh, not so fast my fat friend
Chris turned Dave’s mic off and tried to ignore him, but Dave was correct in thinking that Revolution was a Beatles song - it was the B-side to Hey Jude and tucked away on their White album. Chris said that in that case it didn’t constitute the term “hit”, but in the end he conceded defeat to Dave (who he had branded a loser ten minutes earlier). Dave used those immortal words in a Nick Margerrison stylee...
Dave - Dave wins!!
