Yes it’s Friday, and I can’t wait for the weekend to begin! It’s well underway now, so off we go…
Radio 1 seems to be going through a bit of a U2 phase at the moment, on today’s show particularly, they are doing a gig next week for Zane Lowe’s show, and Jo Whiley and Chris himself will also be there, with their competition winners. The winner gets to fly to Dublin with Radio 1 to watch the gig, and they’ll also fly them back, it’s quite a prize if you’re a U2 fan! The competition is on after 8.00.
A bit of a random discussion at 7.15 this morning, well we do love ‘em! Chris can’t wait for the weekend to begin either, it’s been a long week this week, Dave says it’s gone fast, which is surprising since he’s apparently been off the booze this week, Chris only had a few glasses last night. He was in bed at 11.30, very sensible! Chris was also talking about problems waking up, and how sometimes he doesn’t even realise his alarm went off. I have to say, I agree, I tend to wake up most mornings now, listening to Radio 1 with no memory whatsoever of switching the radio on! Anyway, enough about me, on with the show…
Chris and Rach had a bit of a disagreement before Buzz Off today, Chris said they should be allowed to read out the U2 competition question again, but Rachel didn’t agree, she said if they didn’t catch it once, tough. They were told to listen from 7am, Dave agreed. Aled agreed with Chris, because he will get more people ringing in, and he’ll have more people to speak too. Chris asked if he could read out the answer, she said yes…when they do the competition at 8.15. Chris won eventually though, after he asked Dom and Carrie what they thought, and they both agreed with him. Chris said if Rachel takes a swing at him, they have to stand in her way! Anyway, Chris read it out one final time, and in case you missed it…
Which musical hero did U2’s drummer, Larry Mullen Junior name his son after?
There ya go! It’s too late to enter now though by the way…
BUZZ OFF:
Today’s was a U2 special. Not being the biggest U2 fan ever, the show isn’t going brilliantly for me this morning. The Unforgettable Fire was the record. It was played through until the end, with Aled, Rachel and Dave all buzzing in at the end. 83% buzz on from the listeners, I think it’s me that’s wrong!
NEWS: As revealed by Rachel this morning, they will be playing the first exclusive play of the new Band Aid single on Tuesday morning, don’t miss it, from 6.55am.
FRIDAY FOOTIE COMP:
Sorry ladies, but it’s that time of the week again. Footie comp time! Birmingham V Everton was this week’s game, big match as Dave said. Everton are third in the Premiership and Birmingham are 15th, good luck to both teams! On Line 1 was Sarah, from Birmingham(Aha!), she really wants the tickets, because she’s always at University, and she works on a Saturday. There wasn’t really a need to mention Uni there, these students, they just love to show off! Her boyfriend is from Devon and really wants to be a brummy, but Chris is no Jimmy Saville! On Line 2 was Sonia, from Solihull. Her boyfriend is an Aston Villa fan, and he always takes her 11 year old daughter with him, but she wants her daughter to be a Birmingham fan, so here’s the perfect opportunity! Chris predicted Sonia to win, and he was right. With 67% of the votes, Sonia will be going to St Andrews tomorrow. She sounded very nice, not much more perfect than women who love football
CHRIS AND DAVE’S FOOTIE PREDICTIONS
Another Friday regular, is the bit where Chris and Dave predict the weekend’s football results. Chris got three out of six last week, while Dave got none. Here’s how they got on this week:
Tottenham V Arsenal
Chris: Draw, Dave: Away Win
Southampton V Portsmouth
Chris: Away Win, Dave: Away Win
Man City V Blackburn
Chris: Home Win, Dave: Home Win(Cheers lads!)
Liverpool V Crystal Palace
Chris: Away Win, Dave: Draw
Fulham V Chelsea
Chris: Draw, Dave: Away Win
Charlton V Norwich
Chris: Draw, Dave: Home Win
Bolton V Aston Villa
Chris: Home Win, Dave: Home Win
Dominic is a massive U2 fan, but sadly isn’t allowed to go to Dublin. Neither is Carrie. I suppose newsreaders just aren’t important enough. Shame, because the banter with the two of them is never the same when they’re not in the same studio. Chris said he’ll get “the lads” to ring them, while they’re having a beer with them after the show. Time for some U2 impressions, of The Edge, The Larry and The Bono, funny how they all had exactly the same voice! Anyway, shortly after this, Vertigo got it’s 938,456th play on Radio 1.
Now it’s time to reveal the winner of the U2 competition. They will fly out with Chris and the team, courtesy of Radio 1, and get to see U2 live in Dublin, recorded exclusively for Zane Lowe. Wow! I could be on the radio! The question was “Which musical hero did Larry Mullen name his son after?” The answer was Aaron Elvis. As in, of course, the one and only…Elvis Costello. No, obviously it was Mr Presley, the king of rock and roll himself. Back to the competition, on Line 1 was Laura, who was very excited! Here’s the questions she had to answer:
Q1: The Edge was wrote and recorded a soundtrack for a film called “Captive”. The single “Heroine” was sung by which female singer? Is it:
A. Enya
B. Sinead O’Connor
C. Andrea Corr
Laura’s Answer: A. Enya
Q2: According to their record company, what are the total worldwide sales to date of U2’s The Joshua Tree, released in 1987? Is it:
A. 11,400000
B. 16,500000
C. 20,700000
Laura’s Answer: C. 20,700000
Q3: Which famous photographer took the cover shot of the album All That You Can’t Leave Behind?
Laura’s Answer: B. Anton somebody or other(Sorry but I couldn’t spell any of those names!)
Sadly, Laura isn’t going to Dublin, she got one wrong. So, on Line 2, it was Helen.
Q1: Helen’s Answer: C.
Q2: Helen’s Answer: C.
Q3: Helen’s Answer: B.
Helen isn’t going to Dublin either. Or at least she wasn’t at first. Chris got it wrong the first time, Helen was delighted! She was crying. Chris said he didn’t do that on purpose, it was very cruel if he did! So Helen wins, and she will be taking her brother with her. Chris ran through the prize again, she said it suits her. She was more excited than that though!
Chris gave Dominic the chance to get to go to Dublin as well, of course he won’t really get to go, but it’s just a bit of fun! He got probably the most difficult question of the morning:
Who is the lead singer of U2? Is it:
A. Elvis Presley
B. Jean Paul Gaultier
C. Eddie Stowbart
Dom didn’t know, the answer was of course Bono, some fan eh? Chris said Carrie can go if she wants, but no room for Dom. Dom said they’d rather stay in London anyway, although they had thought about flying over to Dublin anyway, what’s to stop them? Apart from the fact they have to do the news the next morning! Basically, in a nutshell, whether they like it or not, they ain’t going!
Chris was trying his best to get Dom to go to Dublin. Rachel was having none of it. Chris wouldn’t leave it, saying he hopes Bono is listening. Chris set up a text vote for listeners to vote whether Dom should go or not, or whether they agreed with Rachel. Rachel said she was on Dom’s side, but Chris said she didn’t care as long as she was going, and was laying the guilt on her.
Half Time, the bit where Dave says:
LET’S GET READY TO RAMBLE!!!!!
Some random character called Edna popped up here, it was sound clips and they all had some Roy Walker style fun with her, Chris said she sounded like Nadia. I’ve no idea where she came from! Edna I mean, not Nadia. Apparently Madonna won an award last night, and thanked Jo Whiley. Aled thinks Madonna and Jo Whiley are very similar. Such as blonde hair and good looks. Predictably, Chris got round to talking about his love for Jo, or the other way round, as he thinks! He thinks she’s after a young chubby toy boy, and he is available for Jo’s “personal happiness”. Nemone is standing in for Jo Whiley today, not that anybody would have noticed! Anyway, over to Rachel…
It’s not a bad night for TV tonight, Max and Paddy at 9.30, and When Jordan Met Peter at 11pm on ITV. This set them off into a conversation about the pair of them(and Peter!). Aled said they got engaged this week, good timing! Chris said Jordan would hurt him, he said when he goes near her he gets bounced off! Dave mentioned when they went to a party in London, and her boobs walked in to the room before she did! They aren’t the only tits she goes out with! Rachel complained they always end up having a conversation about boobs, this is The Chris Moyles Show darling! Although surprisingly, Chris didn’t mention anything about them! Although he did say you can’t ignore those breasts! Anyway, that’s your TV for tonight!
CARPARK CATCHPHRASE:
On Line 1, it’s contestant number one:
Rob, a geologist, from Bristol: 2
On Line 2, it’s contestant number two:
Nick, a lorry driver from Gloucester: 0
Well, like I said, today’s show wasn’t brilliant, as I’m not the biggest fan of U2. And, even if I was, without wanting to sound biased, they did over do it this morning. Not much else to speak of, see ya next week!
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK:
Elton on Monday, Gwen Stefani, Dom’s birthday, Chris’ row with Rachel about Dom going to Dublin
SHOW OF THE WEEK: Monday
ALSO ON TODAY’S SHOW:
Annie Mac impressions(She was filling in for Nemone by the way)
Dave loves McFly
More U2 ramblings
The team saying hello to friends and family
Discussion about whether they like Jeremy Clarkson or not
