BREAKFAST SHOW NOW STARTS AT 6.55

I almost missed the start of todays show down to the fact that for some bizarre reason, Chris now begins at 6.55 and not 7 o’clock. According to him it is “Radio 1’s Top Secret Weapon against the battle of breakfast across the UK”. Why bother because most of the main breakfast shows (with the exception of Radio 2) start at 6 anyway? This now means Chris is on the other side of Nemone’s last tune with a short link then song up to 7.00 newsbeat. It also means I’ll have to set my tape to go off earlier from tomorrow. Ah well...

(* Where on earth did this come from? It’s over 6 years old and didn’t sound like Chris/Dave had picked it. Therefore it sounds like Radio 1 is finally listening to it’s public and trying to make at least some effort to play some older stuff for once. Would be interested to know if it’s happening with Coxy on Drive aswell but I’m not gonna be listening to find out).

Chris watched EastEnders last night and had the audio from the Barry - Janine shoe scandal dying thing. As you can probably tell I wasn’t watching. Chris thought Barry’s fall to his death was a bit extravagant to say the least and said even Paravotti couldn’t roll down a hill like that. Dave thought it looked steeper than Chris was saying but he wasn’t having any of it. Chris had more audio from a scene in The Queen Vic where Shane Ritchie’s character Alfie Moon was toasting the return of triumphant Gus and his mates but at the same time trying to make a speech about Barry’s death. Chris thought this was a bit insensitive and had added appropriate music to the clip to play out. He switched quickly between Celebration by Kool & The Gang and Our Tune (his sad music) and back again. Chris went to bed at 11 last night after a double bill of Little Britain (“yeah I know” and “I want that one” now incur a £10 penalty on the Moyles show), Dave went to bed at half 10 and Aled at half 11. Rock and Roll Rachel beat them all though as she was asleep by half eight. Dave said “and she’s single surprisingly”. Rachel retaliated with a kick. Yesterday the team went for a few drinks at the boozer after the show, where they were greeted by a snarly and grumpy continental waitress. Chris used this as an opportunity to mock the french and say he couldn’t tell whether foreign people were rude or it was just their accents. Rachel quickly tried to stick up for the waitress and said she was probably tired. Also after yesterdays show, Chris recorded some “tacky” photos for the papers in the studio. Dave said the one in todays 3am column makes him look like Meatloaf. Chris admitted it was an awful shot and said that he looked like the frontman of a Limp Bizkit tribute band, although he said “god knows what they’d be called”.

Chris pointed out to Dominic that today’s Daily Mirror actually has the wrong date on the front page (it says January 5th). Chris said he was no expert in Fleet Street but surely the correct date was an integral part of a national papers front page. Earlier a confused Aled had been walking around for near on half an hour thinking they had only got yesterdays papers. Buzz Off (not by public demand I can assure you) was back at 20 past 7, although today’s record was Connection by Elastica, for which Chris gets some credit. The fact it was only 2 mins 17 secs also meant we got to hear it all as 2,000 listener texts hadn’t come in on 81199. Aled had wanted it off after just 20 seconds (the song that is). Chris continued to talk with Dom and Jules during the 7:30 and 8:30 news and sport, which still doesn’t work for me. If he had something good to say perhaps it would but it seems to be made up on the spot and sound ridiculous as Dom goes into the next headline about Osama Bin Laden etc. Chris talked more about Britney getting hitched and had a clip of her ex-hubby. His Texan drawl sparked off a series of impressions from Chris, Dave and Dom. (Incidentally, one listener texted in asking if Dom was the same Dom from Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow). Chris “rang” up the wedding chapel in Vegas where Britney got married, only to be met by an enthusiastic American woman on answerphone giving numbers to dial if you got drunkenly married at the weekend etc. There was also spoof plugs every 10 seconds for “Randy’s Spit + Grill - The Best burgers in the desert” and a really long fake web address for their site. One sad texter had typed in the address and *shock horror* it didn’t exist. They said they now thought Chris had made it up. Oh dear god help us all.

The Battle of Britain has commenced. Chris heard news on the text that bald pensioner Terry Wogan had been talking about him on Radio 2 breakfast both yesterday and today. This prompted some funny Wogan impressions from Chris. Aled brought in the audio from Wogan’s show yesterday that Chris hadn’t heard. I bet he wished he had after he put it straight on the air. Wogan basically slagged off Chris’s TV ad and asked what it’s final shot of Chris picking his nose was meant to tell people about Radio 1. I can feel a Culshaw - Wogan sketch coming on already. More bad news for Chris as the word from Health and Safety at Radio 1 is that the planned potato spudgun shooting session at Aled is a no-goer. Chris said he’d use frying pans instead then. Dave from Manchester texted in to say that he thought he just heard the trail for Chris and Coxy’s new mini-sites say there was “nude photos, games and more” on them. On second listen “news, photos, games and more” did sound like nude photos. Unless their of Lottie who cares anyway. Chris did his usual football link and said that the regular Man Utd Fanzone commentator is the funniest one on Sky. Dave educated the audience about The Dukes Of Hazzard after a bizarre link. Chris responded by getting the audio of General Lee’s car horn fetched for Dave, albeit in poor quality. Dave added that he’s finding the afternoon episodes of Chips on Bravo one of the best things about working mornings now. They are at 4pm on Bravo and 5pm on Bravo+1 and Chris said they are genuinely Dave’s favourite thing about moving to the new show. Today is Heat Day and there is a big article about the team (featuring Mr “Who wears Pink?” Aled in pink on page 83). Chris ran through the lists of the top 10 sexiest male and female bodies in Heat this week. Halle Berry was mentioned and Dave said she was an Evertonian as her mum is from Liverpool. Chris wasn’t convinced. The top 3 women were (in reverse order) J-Lo, Beyonce and Kylie. Chris said a picture of Jude Law in the mens list made him look like Spider from Corrie. Dave said the name “Orlando Bloom” also sounds like that of a camp florist. The top three men were Beckham, Will Young and Justin Timberlake.

DOM’s TOM CRUISE LINE BINGO:
Dominic Bryne was interviewing him about his new film The Last Samurai at 3pm for Entertainment News. Chris and Dave set Dom the near on impossible task of getting the following lines from Tom Cruise films into his interview:
- “Even in my dreams I know I’m an idiot who knows he’s about to wake up to reality” (VANILLA SKY)
- “Show Me The Money!!” (JERRY MAGUIRE - has to be done in American accent)
- “You Can’t Handle The Truth” (A FEW GOOD MEN)
- “I’m an excellent driver” (RAINMAN)
- “I love you, you complete me” (JERRY MAGUIRE)

Find out how Dom gets on by tuning into tomorrow’s show from 6.55am.
