This morning at 6:55am Chris’s jingle singers kicked off his birthday show in style....
”Good morning to the nation, it’s Moyles’s birthday show,
He just got one year older, now his hairs as white as snow,
We bought him cakes and presents, got messages from the stars,
But the fact it is the morning means the show’s not in a bar,
The Chris Moyles Show, National Radio One”

So yesterday then was Chris’s <s>30th</s> 24th birthday and he said he really enjoyed himself, particularly at his birthday drinks last night. Dave was also there and said it was fantastic. Other guests included Rachel, exec producer Joe, Chris’s girlfriend Sophie and her mum, Chris’s mum Vera and his dad Chris, his cousins who had come over from Ireland for the weekend and Daves wife Emma (who annoyingly kept singing it’s your birthday to him in a 50 Cent stylee, but way out of tune). The only show regular who wasn’t there was Aled, who still has a viral infection so couldn’t make any of the celebrations over the weekend. Nevertheless he sent Chris some flowers with a helium balloon attached, wishing him a happy birthday. Aled texted Chris to say he has almost recovered but was not quite fully 100% today, so he had to give the show a miss. Chris said hello to him at Buzz Off time as he said knowing Aled he would be either listening live, or on Sky Plus or Listen Again if not. He should be back tomorrow. Dominic filled in for him on Buzz Off again, which today was the “classic” 1997 number 4 smash Where’s The Love by yep, Hanson. Dave sounded crestfallen at this particular choice, he called it astonishing. He presumed with it being Chris’s birthday show that he would have at least picked a half-decent record today. Sadly no though as he hadn’t been back home to pick up a CD as he stayed in a posh hotel last night. Therefore Chris chose Hanson from a compilation he brought in last week. Rach buzzed on 0:14, Dave on 0:42, Dom on 3:23 (Dave said about time) and the listeners finally buzzed it off on 3:39.
Chris - I see that Juliette has a brand new haircut for my birthday show. Did Jimmy Nesbitt do that for you as well?
Juliette - No it’s not been cut. It’s been straightened.
Dave (in a poor northern irish accent) - You’re very very very very nice people!!!
(Everyone laughs)

Dom and Jules had presents and cards for Chris. Dominic’s card was based on the theme of I Love Horses and included the line “We all love horses right?” and was signed “Dominic Byrne, newsreader”. His gift to Chris was a jungle snap card game, the same game they played on the train up to Newcastle a few weeks ago. Juliette’s present came in the form of a track on a mindisc, the commentary of Alan Smith’s equaliser for Leeds at Man United on Saturday. Dave called the 1-1 result a moral victory for Leeds. Their still going down don’t worry. Dave was totally gutted after Everton threw away a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 at Southampton on Saturday. He called it a disgrace. Dave went to the game and met two blokes (definitely not cartoon characters) called Itchy and Giggsy...whom he said hello to. Not that Giggsy you understand.

WES LIVE FROM HEATHROW:
Wes was live from Heathrow today as him and his girlfriend were getting ready to board a flight to San Francisco, as at long last he is getting a well deserved holiday. Chris went to San Francisco last year with Sophie and Rachel has spent a fair bit of time there as her cousin Katie lives there, so they both advised young Wesley on what to do and where to go. Chris recommended Union Square, Lombard Street, Golden Gate Bridge and eating cheesecake from the cheesecake factory. He also told Wes he had to visit Alcatraz as it’s fantastic (he told him to get one of those walkman audio tours if possible). Wes is also doing the drive from San Francisco to LA later this week. Chris told him to buy a copy of The Thrills album So Much For The City and start to play it after about 40 minutes of the journey as it’s just amazing listening to Santa Cruz while driving through Santa Cruz. Wes and his other half have actually compiled their own CD to listen to on the drive anyway. Wes is only staying in San Francisco for a few days, at a hotel on Bush Street in Knob Hill (now that got everyone laughing). Just as a precaution in case he couldn’t speak this morning, Wes had recorded a message for Chris wishing him many happy returns for his 24th. He used all the Official Chart jingles to maximum effect, e.g happy *play jingle for no. “30”*th birthday Chris. There was also a very bizarre but funny clip of The Chuckle Brothers saying happy birthday (not personally to Chris as Wes had had it on tape for years) - to me, to you, no not to me etc. Chris as usual on his birthday show did have a big collection of such celebrity messages to play out, except this year they were from real celebs and were not just Dave or Aled pretending to be Bono or Tom Jones. There were messages from :-
- Will Young, Franz Ferdinand, Zane Lowe and Kerry McFadden
- John Peel, The Sugababes, Mackenzie Crook and Jamie Cullum
- Emma B’s daughter Eedie (via text), Vernon, John Hamburg(er), Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston (with Dom last week)
- Chris’s bessy mate Dermot O’Leary, Gwen Stefani, John Peel, Justin Hawkins and Nigel Harmon
- Busted, Scott Mills, Dave Pearce, Coxy talking about the breakfast show (saying I hope your f*cking enjoying it - bleeped out of course) and a quite disturbing rendition of Happy Birthday sung by Peter Andre.
Today is of course the day that Mysterious Girl is re-released and at the time this is being written (very late Monday night), early sales figures indicate that it is heading straight for number one this weekend...or as Chris might say “Back in the charts and Back in our Hearts”.

DALE, DOUGIE AND FRAN:

The first live studio guest of the morning was Dale Winton, who arrived with two quick pecks on Chris’s cheek (just to clarify that was on the face) at 7:55. Dale asked Chris if he was still drunk and it has to be said he does look a bit in the pic above. Dale had bought Chris a bottle of bubbly, a posh pen and some scented candles (that he loves) from Tiffany’s. He stayed around till about 8:20 but said he only had the meter on the car till half 8 and had to head off for another crazy day in the world of showbiz. He nevertheless agreed to read the weather again (cos he was so good a few weeks ago) but this time he made Dominic sound good, blaming his mess-up on his glasses that he’d left in the car. The next mystery guests (or not quite so mysterious as it turned out) were in at ten past 8. Chris played Guess Who with his hands over his eyes, although the scottish accents soon gave it away.
Chris - Are you both male?
Answer - Yes
Chris - Did I see one of you shopping recently?
Answer - You might have done
Chris - and did one of you say...I’m coming in to see you soon
(Everyone laughs)

It was of course Dougie and Fran from Travis who are always a good laugh when they come on the show. They insisted they were in to wish Chris a happy birthday and not shamelessly plug the release of their new (and very good) single Love Will Come Through on March 22nd. That’s incidentally one day after Sophie’s birthday, a week before Rachel’s birthday and one month exactly before my birthday...although for some reason that wasn’t mentioned on the show. Fran was heading out to New York later today and Chris made sure he got out the NY weather forecasts - it’s minus 4 most of the week over there. Fran said that was nothing as they were shooting their new video in Poland last week where it was minus 10. Dougie (or Dougal as Chris referred to him) read the weather at 8:30, despite the clear problems he was having wearing both a silver pointy party hat and a set of headphones at the same time. Today is Dougie’s wife Kelly’s birthday as well so he said he had a secret day of loveliness planned for her.
Chris - Dougie will you give your wife a big kiss from me?
Dougie - I certainly shall
Chris - and say happy birthday
Dougie - I certainly will
Chris - and tell her I’ll call her later when you’re in the shower
Dougie - Easy
Chris - Well....I didn’t know that but thanks for telling me
(Dave, Fran and Dougie laugh)

Travis’s new tour kicks off in Blackpool on March 6th and is taking in such wild and exotic locations as Bridlington and Doncaster. They are being supported by Keane who entered the chart at number 3 yesterday with Somewhere Only We Know. Oh and for the record, Dougies favourite cheese is cheddar and Frans is “that blue stuff”. More pics from todays show are here.

DAVINA, PADDY AND AVID:
There were three more big names on the show in the final celebrity segment, with Davina first up, live on the phone from McCall mansion at 9:15. She was pretty brief because she had to get back to looking after the kids. Chris offered for his mum to babysit as she’s down in London Village at the moment. He also talked a bit about Davina’s new show Love On A Saturday Night which according to what Chris was saying pre-Davina phone call, is pretty crap. Next on the menu was the ever-declining star of BBC3 - Mr...or should that be Mrs...Paddy O’Connell. Chris thanked BBC3 for the big cake with alcohol in it that they sent him over the weekend. Only problem being, Chris didn’t like it. Paddy is always good value when he’s on the show and today was no exception. Chris said Paddy was drunk in the pub on Friday night and was trying to sell his parents some chickens. Yep and if you thought things couldn’t get any more bizarre, Paddy had a gift for Chris - erm, a big pink bucket. A bucket that when you pull a trigger, fires out a ball of air. Paddy volunteered Dave to be the first to be fired at and Dave was keen to first find out if it was potentially life-threatening before giving in. He said it was quite a nice sensation actually. Soon after Dave had presented Chris with a framed picture of himself and Pink at 9:45, who should burst into the studio but the one and only Mr Avid *hello to you* Merrion himself. He claimed to have taken a wrong turn on the way to Yalding House and said he had been stopped by the police. Avid unsurprisingly had a huge collection of gifts for Chris, all delivered in a Selfridges bag and wrapped in Heat Magazine. They included a toy guitar, a keyboard and a xylophone. Avid said looking at them he’d actually brought all the instruments you need to be in the band Busted, which Dave and Will Kinder (that laugh is so recognisable) found very funny. Avid said the card he had got Chris was perfect for radio - as it was fairly graphic. All I know was it featured Caprice, Terri Dwyer ex-Hollyoaks, plenty of flesh and by the sounds of it, it was very funny. Avid had thoughtfully included a £1 HMV voucher in the card. As if these gifts from Avid, Paddy, Dale, Jules, Dom, Rach, Aled and Dave (2 cakes) weren’t more than enough, Chris also picked up plenty more stuff over the weekend. He got a new coat, a posh wallet, a Kenny Everett DVD, a framed & signed picture of his mate Chris (don’t ask) and some very special tickets from his girlfriend. They are plane tickets for a flight....to Luxembourg. Chris under the name Chris Holmes was of course a DJ for a year on Radio Luxembourg when he was 18...and this weekend him and the missus are going back there.

NO CARPARK CATCHPHRASE TODAY
With all the big celebrity guests and in particular Avid’s visit to the show, there was no time for Roy Walker and Mr Fish today. Carpark Catchphrase will return after 9:30 tomorrow.
