Chris began this morning by thanking that crazy Radio 1 shock jock Nemone for Early Breakfast. Towards the end of her show today Nemone was talking about the big Radio 1 race next Tuesday. She is a filming a BBC3 documentary about her training for the Greek Olympic team, and next week she is going to be competing against her Radio 1 colleagues in a big 200m race. Her competitors in the so-called “Sack race” (sack as in whoever finishes last is fired - guh huh) are Spoony, Chappers, Mr ego Colin Murray, the boss Andy Parfitt and...the winner of The Chris Moyles Sextathlon 2003 - Aled “Welsh Wonderboy” Jones. Aled said that he isn’t feeling too confident and just might have a chance if Nemone has to run 400 metres and him just 200. Aled has been dragged into representing the breakfast show cos Chris refused, yet Chris said he’ll still be there with Rache at the finishing line, urging Aled on with a collection of his favourite things. A woo woo, camp crop top, French Connection vouchers and Rachel shouting at him were the ideas mentioned. Aled was particularly fond of the Rachel idea...
Aled - That’ll work....from behind
(Collective “Woah” in the studio)
Dave - Well...
Chris - Hello...
Dave - Good mornin'
Chris - I was kind of thinking of just giving you a glass of woo woo, but whatever will make you win
Dave (laughing) - Everyone needs their own incentive I think, in order to perform to their maximum

The race is live into Jo Whiley’s show next Tuesday just after 11am and you can find out more at Radio 1 Online by visiting Jo’s mini-site:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/jowhiley/fe ... race.shtml
Chris (talking to Dave) - So this race thing, apparently your doing the commentary
Dave - I’m the commen-tarter
Chris - It’s gonna be live on Jo Whiley’s show, that’s gonna be a great piece of radio. What’s next? Hide and Seek into John Peels show?
(Dave laughs)

Chris was flicking between both the Chelsea - Stuttgart and Man United - Porto matches last night while eating his tea. Chris said he wanted United to go through as the Porto players were all diving cheats. Dave said he didn’t see the game but Chris told him that he was just looking after our home boys...
Chris - You know I hope that Thierry Henry and Bergkamp and all our local lads do really well tonight for Arsenal
Chris was more appreciative of Aled’s outfit today than he was yesterday, saying his jumper was actually quite nice. Aled said he’d never seen so many requests for a webcam shot as there were yesterday when Chris was in his sleeveless New York crop top. Aled amused Dave and Chris by describing his look in it as “tight”. Rachel wanted a feel good tune on Buzz Off this morning, yet when she got it she was first to buzz in. Chris chose the classic You’re The First, The Last, My Everything by Barry White, which Dave was shaking his tail feather to. Rache buzzed on 1:36, Dave on 2:56, Aled on 2:59 and Chris buzzed off for the listeners (for timings) as less than 2000 texts were going to come in.

REVERSE-A-WORD ON CHALLENGE TV :
Dave received a letter today from Challenge TV, sent in regard to his most recent EQF (experimental quiz format). They (apparently) said they were delighted Dave was pushing back the boundaries of quiz show format with such new and innovative ideas as Reserve-a-Word. Despite having their reservations about it, they shockingly said they would like to donate five minutes of expensive air time to him, for him to make a TV pilot of Reverse-a-Word (presumably in a prime-time slot - 3am maybe?). Dave said he wouldn’t be hosting the show as he was simply the architect. He was on the look out for someone with proper TV experience to hold the whole thing together - and that’s where Chris’s phone book came in handy. Despite Chris saying his TV friends would just laugh in his face, Dave insisted Chris rang up his number one choice Paddy O’Connell, live on the air at 8:15. They had clearly woke Paddy up. Dave apologised and quickly briefed him on their current situation, saying Challenge TV had given him not so much the green light, but definitely the amber light to proceed with this format. It’s fair to say Paddy wasn’t impressed and said the answer to whether he would present Reverse-a-Word was a definite ON (see what he did there). After a few minutes of putting his case across, Chris told Dave to leave it as his quiz was about as popular as a bacterial disease. Dave said granted, the response from Paddy had been slightly lukewarm...but he was more confident that Dale Winton would accept his generous offer. He had no right to be confident though and Chris said there was more chance of Sara Cox doing a month without taking a holiday than Dale doing this show. Chris rang him live however just before 8:30 and stressed that this was entirely down to Dave and nothing to do with him...
Dave - Morning Dale
Dale - Morning Dave, how are you?
Dave - Not so bad, look I’m sorry to ring you so early..
Dale - Yeah, what time is it?
Dave - Oh it’s very very very early
Dale - It is really isn’t it?
Dave - Hey, but that’s not important right now...

Unsurprisingly Dale was as equally un-enthusiastic as Paddy had being, saying unfortunately for Dave he was pretty solidly booked for the next 3 or 4 years. Dave took that as a maybe, but I’m not sure how. After this blunt rejection from his two favourites for the gig, Dave decided to resort to less established TV presenters by asking Chris if he had the numbers of Abi Titmuss or Howard from the Halifax ads. Dave said “who gives you extra...entertainment?”.

Aled had a very cool Guess Who from his weekend trip to New York. The mystery celeb was spotted by Jones in a bar where he had been drinking *. Everyone except Chris and Dom knew the answer and when the two of them identified that this Guess Whoee was a rapper, they couldn’t guess the right answer. Despite mentioning 13 different rap “stars” (including MC Hammer and Tone Loc), they couldn’t correctly guess it was Jay-Z. Aled said he didn’t go over to Mr Z for a bit of a chitter chat in the club as he was too busy dancing to Toxic by Britney (cue piss-take by Chris and Dave). In the last hour of today’s show Chris rang daytime producer Will Kinder, who he thought would be listening to the show on his way in on the train. His phone rang and then went to voicemail, where Will’s message included the genious line “please do leave a message, I check them frequently”. Chris decided to leave one as someone called Sarah asking for an autograph from Comedy Dave. After 9 o’clock Dave decided that instead of just reading out the number for Carpark Catchphrase, he’d sing it....to the tune of Back Home by the 1970 England World Cup Squad. Joy.

RADIO 1’S DIGITAL WEEK:>>>(For full details see Mon 8th March Review below or visit here)
Playing for a DAB Digital radio today was Leigh from Plymouth, a 20 year old postman who’s got a joint 21st birthday party coming up on the 8th of April and invited all the crew. It’s at Parkway Social Club in Plymouth from 7:30 till late but Chris said unfortunately he was busy that night (washing his hair or summat). Leigh’s question asked what piece of digital equipment Chris had bought recently. The options were a bit easier than yesterdays - a home mini-gym, George Foreman lean mean fat reducing grilling machine or an iPod. Lee correctly guessed iPod. He won the Digital Radio and is also through to next Monday’s big breakfast finale where he could be winning Radio 1’s Digital Life (for more on that see Monday’s review).

CARPARK CATCHPHRASE:
WAYNE who delivers drugs to pharmacies in Derby 2
MICHELLE a 21 year old squeaky florist shop owner from Bromley 0
**Michelle sounded quite cute but jesus christ was she hard work. Chris told her to have a nice day and wished her “good luck with learning the art of conversation my darlin'”.**

Daves Tedious Link
Seal Crazy - As well as being a singer, a way of closing an envelope, and a sea mammal capable of clapping and balancing a ball on it’s head, a seal can also be a stamp of approval - Approval needs to be granted before you can proceed - “Proceed with caution” sounds like the sort of thing that might be said by a driving instructor - Driving instructors have to be registered and approved, and in that respect share something in common with dentists - Dentists use drills, as do those involved in the installation of oil rigs - Riggs is the name of the character in the Lethal Weapon films that is played by actor Mel Gibson - Gibson is a famous make of guitar - Guitars require strings, as do Venetian blinds and hammocks - If you remove the “ham” from hammocks, you’re left simply with mocks which are something you’d probably have to do if you were a student - Students have loans - Loans rhymes with phones - Phones need to be paid for and therefore generate bills - Bills rhymes with gills - and gills are the part of the fish which enable it to survive underwater and therefore breathe - Which links us to The Prodigy and Breathe

CHRIS MOYLES EXTRA (1000-1030):

Chris said he was really enjoying todays show and could stay on all day. With this in mind and the show determined to overtake the Archers as The BBC Listen Again’s most listened to show, Chris suggested the team stay on for an extra half an hour at ten o’clock, but exclusively for Listen Again listeners and no-one else. An incentive basically for people to log on and get the figures up. Rachel said all she had on this morning was a show meeting at half ten and Chris just had afternoon gym appointment with his new kiwi personal trainer so could stay too (him and Rach saw big fat Jono again at the gym on Monday BTW). It was therefore agreed that they would do the additional 30 minutes, although Dave was a little apprehensive about what they would fill the links with.
Dave - We haven’t got any material
Chris - Doesn’t matter, it’s not stopped us for the last seven years has it..
(plays trail)

If Dave was foreseeing trouble filling the links in between music, then more bad news was to come. Down to copyright and music licensing regulations, Chris wasn’t allowed to play any records. That meant “Chris Moyles Extra” had to be in entirely talk format, with no phone-ins or competitions cos no-one would be listening live. Dave told Rachel to imagine the part of the show he calls half time or “the kick back and relax” session (9 till 9:30)....but without the security of records. Chris is convinced the show can beat The Archers to the top spot it has held for a year and Dave made a point I was thinking about last week - he said he was surprised that the core audience of the Archers actually used computers. Chris agreed The Archers was for people who are almost dead (Rachel didn’t sound too impressed). Dave said that The Chris Moyles Show on the other hand was “essentially for the spunky youth of the country”.

CHRIS MOYLES EXTRA - REVIEW:>>>
The whole team were in the studio for the special extra half hour, including Dom, Jules and a very special guest - Woking’s one and only...Mr Will Kinder! Will said with everyone clapping and cheering the show is slowly turning into Steve Wright in the afternoon. Will is now daytime producer and Chris cleared it with him that he was allowed to play the show jingles and Guess Who music, but no records. Will said that was correct. Dave wondered how the hell they were going to fill half an hour without the “safety net of music”. Chris began by playing a clip from the Westlife press conference in Dublin yesterday, although Dave was eager to make sure they were allowed to play it. Chris told him to chill and said he is never this concerned when they are on the radio for real. Dave said he actually did do Media Law at college (granted only for a term) and said he just wanted to make sure the show was watertight. Chris played a clip from the press conference of Kian from Westlife talking about all the new stuff the band have in the pipeline after Bryan leaves. Chris said that if he was Bryan it would annoy him that they were all concentrating on their new stuff, not him leaving. Chris said Bryan would probably have wanted to hear all about their future career plans now the band is obviously going to go downhill without him. Chris said they could open a club and call it “Westclub”. A string of other funny suggestions then followed from the team - Westbikes (a mountain biking shop), Westloaf (a bakery), Zestlife (a citrus fruit importer), Vestlife (a German clothes shop) and Westrest, either a snooker shop or a nursing home for the elderly. Dave said that if Westlife put their money into geriatric care it would no doubt be a worthwhile investment. Juliette had a Guess Who - the BBC’s Moira Stewart spotted in Sainsburys in West London on Sunday. Aled said he was on the free BBC shuttle bus with her a fortnight ago. With the distinct lack of music, Dave kept chipping in to run down the clock on how long was left. Next at 10:15 was a behind-the-scenes Listen Again show meeting exclusive. Will ran through the stuff on the mornings show, giving his opinions. He fell at the first hurdle however, having missed the first 35 minutes cos he was still asleep. Will admitted he’s never actually heard the first minutes of the show and upset Dominic by saying he ignores the 7am Newsbeat bulletin if the alarm does go off, “as they trot it out again half an hour later”. Will said he liked the new revamped funny questions on the Digital Competition and revealed he’d changed it cos the big boss Parf Daddy came down and slagged off his question yesterday. Greyhead also enjoyed the Reverse-a-word links, although not so much the Archers ones as Dave called their listeners “borderline bumpkins” at a time when Will is in delicate talks with their people and had promised not to slate them on the air. After the show meeting, there was still time left for a bizarre right hand/left hand celebrity game and time for the team to guess some chat room acronyms that Chris said Aled would know....and then there was even time for a classic Will Kinder dirty videos story - featuring (of course) mentions for Star Whores, Erotic Blair Witch Project and Horny Housewives. It was at this point that they had officially run out of material and the extra bit was over, although Chris said he had enjoyed “Chris Moyles Extra” and might consider doing it again sometime. To hear the extra half hour visit Wednesday’s Listen Again here and fast forward to 3:05 hrs (NOTE - ONLY IF YOU’RE READING THIS BEFORE WED 17 MARCH - IF YOU’RE READING AFTER IT’LL BE IN THE SOUND VAULT). Quote of the day went to Dave who at half ten said...“You know that was still shorter than some of our links”.
