Week number 2 and Chappers and Dave are still going strong...who would have thought it? They both dropped in (again) for a quick chinwag with Vernon at ten to one today. Dave attempted Vernon’s little quiz, which beforehand had been completed successfully just 4 times out of 20. Better make that 4 times out of 21 then. The game was basically a memory test, 8 questions asked in a row with all 8 answers given in order at the end (no pens & paper allowed). Dave was truly ruuubish and said that there was a way of remembering stuff like that that he had forgotten. Chappers quite rightly pointed out that if Dave had forgotten to employ a memory test, then that was a flaw in itself. Dave made his excuses and moved on. Today is of course FA Cup final Saturday in both England and Scotland, and with Chappers missing today’s United - Millwall game to present this show, he was a little bit peeved to say the least. Even more so because he missed their previous final against Newcastle in 99 as he was at a wedding. That therefore was the hot topic for the first half hour - “It’s Cup Final day today but I’ve got to go to a stupid wedding”. Calls and texts came flooding in straight away. Chappers said the ideal wedding should be from 2:30 to 3 with the reception starting at 5.
Dave - At my wedding we got married at 4:00 and it was all done in time for final score, we were laughing
Chappers (laughs) - You’re full of love (hits Avril Lavigne vocal)

Mark and Dave talked to Natalie, Tasha, Gareth and Claudia on the phones, all of whom were on their way to weddings. Claudia was off to the wedding of Mitch and Rachel in Coventry. She said that they are both Aston Villa fans though so naturally (and correctly) they had presumed that they wouldn’t make it to the Cup final. Dave said that that’s not the point. One text also asked the question - Why do grooms allow the wives to pick the wedding dates?, cos Cup final day should be a definite no no.

CHRIS, DAVE AND EL TEL IN A BOOZER:
This weeks big celeb interview at 1:45 was with old El Tel, Tezza Venables himself. Chappers and Dave interviewed him earlier in the week...in a boozer unsurprisingly. Terry was slurring his words at the start of the interview, which wasn’t a good sign. However he was fine in the end and chatted about National Pub Football Week (which he was promoting), today’s FA Cup Final and music in the dressing room before games. The last time he was on the show, he was promoting his own tune England Crazy before the 2002 World Cup...and two years on he’s still plugging it. Terry said the musical offers have actually dried up nowadays (shock horror), but Chappers said they’d make him feel better by playing his tune on the jukebox. He also asked Terry what sort of music he would usually stick on before a game in the dressing room. He said he was never much of a “music before the match” fan and struggled to pick a tune he liked that Radio 1 could play. In the end he opted for Baker Street (originally by Gerry Rafferty). Mark played the first minute of the Undercover remix from 92 before taking it off after the fake sax due to pressure from Neil. He then stuck on D12, which provoked a few texts moaning that they should actually have played Baker Street instead. Terry said he’d had a good laugh with them both and revealed that he was supporting Millwall this afternoon cos Dennis Wise is an old mate of his.

Chappers showed off his musical knowledge again this week, saying that his top three albums of the moment are from Snow Patrol, Keane and the Scissor Sisters. Hard to disagree. Dave’s Record Of The Week this week was the farthest womens long jump of 7.52m (24 ft 8 in), set by Galina Chistyakova in St Petersburg Russia on June 11th 1988. Sporting Number Ones today was a crap choice that R1 obviously chose to fit in with the playlist. There’s so many great moments and tunes to pick from but they had to go for Amy’s choice of Goran Ivanisevic’s Wimbledon win in July 2001, which meant that today’s “Sporting Number One” was Another Chance by Roger Sanchez...ruuubish. Next week Dave is after great Cross Country, Shot put, Discuss, Javelin and Rhythmic Gymnastics moments...so many spring to mind eh? You can submit your suggestions online via Dave and Chappers pages @ Radio 1 ONLINE. Just fill out the form, it’s pretty easy. As Chappers read out details of this, Dave was preoccupied watching his and Chris’s Top 10 Cracking FA Cup Goals on BBC One’s Cup Final Coverage. I’ll let you in on a showbiz secret, I wasn’t actually listening live to Dave & Chappers today (I taped it) so I actually missed their big TV appearance this afternoon (Chris never mentioned it on Breakfast either, which is unusual). However, the Top 10 Goals will be shown again tonight on BBC One @ roughly midnight and are also repeated tomorrow morning just before 9am. (EDIT: Having now seen this I thought it was genius).

Huddersfield fan Simon beat Crystal Palace fan Tom on this weeks Three and In, to win tickets for the Huddersfield - Mansfield Div 3 Play Off final in Cardiff next Monday. Next week the prize is a big vodafone hospitality bus to the racing @ Epson for you and all your work mates, with free booze, food and ace tipsters. That will happen a week on Friday (June 4th). Listen next week between 1 and 3 to have a chance of winning. Final words this week go to the big Soccer Six tournament @ Reading tomorrow, where the Radio 1 team will be looking to clinch the trophy. The Management team of Gaffer Moyles and Coach Vitty are yet to meet the team, so Dave called the training so far “low key”.
Chappers - You’ll meet the team at 10:30 on Sunday morning, an hour before kick off
Dave - First game is half eleven which (laughs) I think is more than enough time to go through some European style diagrams and tactics (Chappers laughs)
