How embarrassing then was yesterday afternoon for old Chris and Dave eh? After a few pints at lunchtime the pair of them passed a fancy dress shop on the way home and (being a bit tipsy), they decided to pop in and buy an outfit each. They ended up choosing Batman and Robin costumes, which they then slipped into for an impulse but unscheduled visit to see Queen Liz at Buck House. Chris said it seemed like a good idea at the time, although he did get stuck on some balcony for a few hours - and then loads of coppers and Sky News trucks turned up.
Dave - Still, you got down in time for EastEnders didn’t you?
(Chris laughs)
Guh huh. Moyles said he was just round to see if Charles was in actually - as they have still got that karaoke night planned for Friday. He did a very bizarre (but entertaining) sketch involving Charles and himself on the balcony as Batman - which he said would have been brilliant on TV last night:
Chris - See now that, 7 o’clock last night - that would’ve been great telly... that’s what they should have done. And let’s face it, it would have been a lot better than Vernon Kay’s Headjam on BBC2...
(plays jingle)
Well unquestionably. That show keeps Claudia Winkleman in a job though I suppose. Everyone was in a fairly good mood on the team today, with Chris staying in last night and treating himself to a film on the old Sky Box Office - Paycheck starring Ben Affleck and Uma Thurman (which is a bit crap). Chris was watching it 25 minutes delayed on his near full Sky + Planner, as he’d been watching the end of Season 3 of 24 on DVD as it started. Chris hadn’t deleted any extra space for Paycheck, as there was loads of unsaved stuff on his planner that Soph still wants to see - such as 2 weeks worth of NYLON from Channel 4. Chris however didn’t expect a message to flash up on his screen saying “out of memory”... just five or six minutes before the end of the film. That would have been the most irritating thing ever - if the film weren’t so average. Dave said in a way it was a bit like falling asleep at the crucial part of a film, like with him and The Sixth Sense all those years ago. Remember Chris got into trouble on TV for giving away the ending of that (on The Millennium Tube) - although he still maintains he was just reading from his cards.
Dave - So who is dead? It’s Bruce Willis isn’t it?
Chris - Sssshhhh
Dave - Oh
Sticking to the subject of films starring Uma Thurman (Paycheck - Kill Bill y’see), Chris said he is still yet to watch Kill Bill 2 on DVD. He was originally waiting for Sophie to see the first one, so that they could then watch it together. She texted him about an hour into watching Volume One at her place though - to tell him she hated it and thought it was crap. Each to their own etc etc. Moyles was moaning now about the fact he may never get to see Volume 2 (it’s rubbish anyway) - as “she” won’t want him to watch it while she’s round his place. Aled suggested Chris leave it till she’s not there, as he said you don’t want to be watching Kill Bill 2 with a non Kill Bill fan. (I hope you’re still following this btw)...
Dave - Maybe you and Aled could stay in and watch it together
(Rach laughs)
Chris - Well maybe I can talk Sophie round actually...
Dave - mmm
(Old friend of the show Uma in Kill Bill 2 - which having seen it twice I now conclude is crap)
KEN BRUCE NEWS CLIPS, SEAN CONNERY AND AN UNPOPULAR BUZZ OFF:>>>
On Radio 2. That kids - is a station for old people. Just after the 7 o’clock news Chris played Dom a clip of what happened on old Ken Bruce Lee’s show at 11am yesterday morning. His news reader had a coughing fit mid bulletin and couldn’t quite get his voice back - meaning Ken had to come in early, with his jingle and record both cued up and ready to go (what a pro).
Dom - It’s hard being a BBC news reader y’see
Sticking with the subject of news reading, Chris said he’d noticed that Dom doesn’t do any of the wacky “and finally” stories that most radio stations include in their bulletins. Dom said sometimes he does...
Chris - What was your last story before the sport today?
Dom - Er it wasn’t the funniest of stories that we’ve ever done to be honest with you - it was about postal ballots
Chris - Right
(him, Dave and Jules laugh)
Not quite “Rex The Dog had an amazing escape today” is it? Another key problem with news and sport reading is that sometimes you can get your words tangled up, as happened with Jules as she was talking about “cricket” and “football” at 8 o’clock. This reminded Chris of a time he went to say “football” on another radio station (almost certainly Capital), but then changed his mind at the last minute and decided to say “soccer”. What you got in the end was a mixture of the two - “foccer”.
(Jules and Dom laugh)
Chris - It didn’t go down well..
Chris *impersonating Richard Park* - I thought that was a very strange use of the word there... (normal voice) oh by the way that was my boss, who was Sean Connery at the time
Dom - Was he a good boss to work for, Mr Sean Connery?
Chris *Richard Park voice again* - Oh yesh. Absolutely
Dom - mmm. How about Sean Connery though, what was he like?
(Jules and Chris laugh)
Chris’s Buzz Off choice today officially went down like a fart in a crowded lift. And yes, I believe that is the official word on it. It was the debut release by The Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls, from November 85 (it reached number one). I actually quite like this song - although I was clearly in the minority, both on the text and in the studio. 62% of people buzzed it off on 81199, Dave buzzed in after just 8 seconds (calling it a horrible record), with Aled following on 1:29 and Rach after that on bang on 2 minutes. Other music on the show this morning came courtesy of that half decent new Kelis & Andre 3000 record, Feeder, Fatboy Slim, the Scissor Sisters - and a classic from Groove Armada, which Rach and Aled were both getting on down to. Chris said it really is amazing how butch Aled looks when he dances.
Dave - mmm. Make an orderly queue girls..
(Chris laughs)
DAVES INTRODUCTORY SERVICE GOES CLASSICAL:
Probably the best bit of this mornings show was between 8:45 and 9:15, when the team played Daves Introductory Service - Classical stylee. This all came from the fact that Chris was playing a relaxing classical bed when discussing Thursday’s Book Signing - and from this the link elevated into a “who knows more composers” contest. Dave took part in the game (despite claiming classical wasn’t really “his genre”) - with all the tracks coming from the “36 Most Popular Classics” double CD that Chris bought in Our Price a few years ago. Apparently it was play at home fun...
Chris - There are people in council estates up and down the country going “oh damn, I thought that was Bach... I really did”
(Dave laughs)
Dave was humming along to most of the tunes played - which seemed to mainly be by Tchaikovsky... and not any of the numerous composers him and Aled were guessing:
Dave - Beethoven
*buzz sound effect*
Dave - Bach?
*buzz sound effect*
Aled - Haydn?
Chris - I’m fine thanks, how are you doing?
(Chris, Aled and Dave laugh)
Dave said a game like this would rise the teams profile massively - calling it “coolture”. He also noticed a familiarity about a lot of the songs Chris was playing, which he was sure him and Emma had as incidental music before Z Cars at the wedding...
Dave - Do you think we’ve got the same album?
(Dom laughs)
Rach and Aled were logging all the composer details etc for each track, although Chris was cutting each one short if possible:
Chris - Stop The Clock!!
(Aled laughs)
Chris - Well, you don’t want to be paying these dead composers more than they’re due do you?
Dave - Do they still get royalties off them?
Aled - Nooo
Chris - Well obviously to the great great grand kids - y’know Tommy and Julie Beethoven...
Dave - mmm
Chris - ... well this is there college fund
Dave - Right
(pause - Rachel laughs)
Dave - What are you laughing at Rachel? We’re explaining how music works!!
Rach (laughing) - Tommy and Julie Beethoven?
*Classic FM - the nations favourite... classical radio station
Chris (raises voice) - and who said by the way that the BBC is dumbing down? How dare you say we’re dumbing down!! We’re playing classical music - so stick that up your arse!!
(Dave laughs)
GIVEAWAY CHRIS, OZZY, FEARNE AND PLYMOUTH ARGYLE CHANTS:>>>
Chris - Seriously I feel like I’m running some kind of ruddy market stall today. All I’m doing is giving stuff away...
Dave said they could just give Chris away for an undisclosed period of time instead. He said OK - depending upon who won him. Cos obviously he’d be keen to spend more time with some people than with others...
*over news bed*
Dave - Yeah like if it was a hot momma or someone
Chris - A “hot momma”? (laughs)
Dave - mmm
Chris - What do you mean, like Elle McPherson?
Dave - Yeah I hadn’t really thought about it, but yeah she would do
Chris - OK well if she wants to enter the competition she’s more than welcome. But we’ve really gone off the subject here, cos I was trying to lead into the news..
Dave - Let’s focus
The only actual stuff being given away though was OBW tickets, although Chris did plug in detail the online Man U - Liverpool Spot The Ball competition (and for more on that click the link or check last Friday’s review below). 29 people won tickets to Saturday @ OBW on the show this morning - with Rach (6 pairs), Jules (6), Joce (5), Aled (5), Dave (4) and Dom (3) manning the phones. Ruthless Dom even put the phone down on someone half way through as The One Big Minute Clock ticked onto 60.
Rach - Shall I tell you something weird? I had three Andy’s..
(all laugh)
Dom - But what about the phone calls Rach?
Old Ozzy (or rather Culshaw) was back for Day 2 of his Guide To Birmingham this morning, with the concentration today on canal boats and Broad Street. Hear the lickle segment here:
Ozzy - I should be working for the f*cking tourist board
As well as more from Ozzy, Chris also broke the news that the love of his life Fearne Cotton is now apparently going out with one of the Lostprophets:
Chris - How can she do that? He’s Welsh!!!
(pause)
Chris - I don’t mean that like you can’t go out with a Welsh person, but she’s a * *up the apples and pears and all that* - and he’s Welsh...
Dave - What would they talk about?
Chris - Yeah!
(Dom laughs)
(pause)
Dom - It’s probably been said before but this show really does unite the whole of the UK doesn’t it?
(Dave laughs loudly)
In the nations favourite league (oh no sorry - in The Coca Cola League Championship), dirty dirty Leeds have another early season six pointer at Plymouth Argyle tonight. Chris said he can’t go, but he did receive a funny e-mail from some Plymouth fan telling him that to every single team that visits, they always sing “you dirty northern bar stewards!, you dirty northern bar stewards!” etc etc.
Dave - They also sing “We’ve got a lighthouse, you ain’t, you ain’t!!”, which I think is a great chant!!
(Jules, Chris and Dom laugh)
Dom (laughing) - Not enough clubs sing that to be fair
BRIEF ROUND UP OF OTHER STUFF THIS MORNING:>>>
- Here’s a quick list of some of the other stuff you may have missed today:
*Chris and Dom talking about Oprah Winfrey giving away £4 million’s worth of cars on her new US show yesterday
*Dave saying Rach is getting more and more lines under her eyes day by day at the moment...
Rach - It’s the early mornings. They’re no good for my skin..
Dave - It’s cos you’re in your 30’s
(Jules laughs and “ooos”)
*Dave telling the Chris and lead singer from Keane story again
*Jules admitting that she fancies Roy Keane
*Windy Bridge Tuesday on One Road Travel
*Chris replaying the Dicky Tum 411 parody after 9
*And Wogan and Ken Bruce discussing coughing news readers, greenhouses and tomatoes
Father Byrne’s Thought For The Day - “Classical music can be good for young people too”
TWO MORE THICKOS ON CARPARK CATCHPHRASE:
ANDREW a building surveyor from Bromley 2
JOHNNY a self employed builder from Derby 0
Daves Tedious Link
Michael Jackson Billie Jean - One of the most famous Billie Jeans is Billie Jean King, who was a famous lesbian tennis legend and in that respect shares something in common with Martina Navratilova - Martina Navratilova was born in Prague, making her originally a Czech - Check 1-2 was a backing band for Craig McLoughlin, who scored a big hit with Mona - The Mona Lisa is a famous painting that is situated in The Louvre, in Paris - Paris Hilton is heiress to a hotel empire and is also now a movie actress - Movie Star was a hit last year for Stereophonics - Stereophonics’ Kelly and Richard Jones both share the same surname as Aled and Rachel Jones, despite the fact that none of them are actually related - “Related” rhymes with “belated”, which is the type of wishes sent on an overdue birthday card - Birthday cards come in envelopes of every colour of the rainbow - and a rainbow is created when sunlight refracts through water droplets held in the air, following a period of sustained precipitation, when the sun quite literally “hits the sky” - Which links us to Supergrass and Sun Hits The Sky
MINI MOYLES UPDATE:>>> (thanks to Tipsy Dipsy again)
- Today Chris is on day two of his walking/no drinking regime

Dom - She can sleep in the Sky Lounge
Dave - There’s no room in the Sky Lounge
