BIG SHOW NEWS AND LAST DAY IN LEEDS:

And the big show news is…… that Rachel has her voice back! Oh and another story that made its way into the Newsbeat bulletins throughout the show is that Chris’ (and the rest of Radio 1’s) listening figures have increased by nearly 1 million in the last quarter. Of course there could be several reasons for this: The New Weeknight Line up (ie no more Dave Pearce), JK & Joel’s start on the station, or as Dom thought, the brilliant One Road Travel reports on the half hour during the breakfast show. Chris disagreed, saying that it was more likely due to Nemone (jokingly people!).

Whatever the reason for the listener increase, Parf Daddy recorded a small report that played out during Newsbeat all morning. He congratulated Chris and the team. Maybe there’s a pay rise in the pipeline…

The team continued by asking new listeners to text in and tell them who they were and where they were from. People included Rob the trucker who listens every day except Saturdays and Sundays because Vernon Kay is on (and is rubbish). There were also all the girls in 10F-DHSG – What followed was a discussion on what DHSG was – Dave asked if it was DFS and Chris said it would have an F in it if it was DFS

Chris: ‘H is not an abbreviation of F’
Dave: *agrees*

Andy in Sheffield can’t live without Chris apparently, who then said it was a bit worrying. Anna in Fulham and Joe in Falmouth are also new listeners. There’s also a load of other people that texted in, but if I listed them all here, you would get bored… easily.

In addition, Chris dug out some of the jingles that were created a few months back to commemorate his first listener rise and continued to play them out during the show.

Jingle Singer: ‘We’ve got 7 Million listeners’
Chris: ‘Technically its 7.4’

Chris explained to the listeners today how because he was in Leeds he missed the Radio DJ dinner last night, hosted and cooked by Colin Murray. He jokingly added that because every other daytime DJ had gone along, it would be Chris and the gang until 7pm when Zane takes over.

Chris also announced that his mum had had her operation yesterday, and all had gone well. They can’t get Radio 1 in the hospital, so they sneaked a radio in, even though she prefers Wogan (that’s devotion isn’t it!)

Whilst up in Leeds, Chris is spending his time doing a little family bonding, and last night it was time for Chris, Dave and Rachel to go down the pub with Chris’ Dad, Uncle Jim and brother Kieron. Uncle Jim told his jokes and there was some confusion at the bar when Dave joined Jim to order some drinks:

Jim: ‘You having a pint, Dave?’
Dave: ‘Yeah, I’ll have one please.’
Jim: ‘And What’s your lass having?’ [referring to Rachel]

Yes, Uncle Jim believed that Dave and Rachel were an item for an hour or two and Chris didn’t think of telling him otherwise!

THE BIG FACT HUNT – MOYLES STYLE AND BUZZ OFF:
For those who switch off their radios at 10am, never to be turned on again until 6:55 the following day, you probably haven’t heard the delights of Scott Mill’s Big Fact Hunt. Basically, Chappers asks the nation to find the answer to his fact within their specially commissioned search engine. This morning’s show featured a parody if you wish, on that same idea, in which Dave and Aled tried to amuse the nation with their uncanny wit. As the show was loosely based around the fact that the listening figures had increased, the facts were similar.

Aled worked out that there are 2 and a half times more listeners to the show than there are in Wales.

Dave tried to workout how many Goodison Park’s listened to the show (occupancy of 40,000). 185, he asked, being correct, which is slightly more impressive than Aled’s fact.
Today’s buzz off song was Susudio by Phil Collins. Chris promised Dave he’d like it even more than Monday’s Def Leppard, and he seemed to be right, with Dave not buzzing at all throughout the song.
The rest of the team weren’t so sure though with Aled buzzing off after only 5 seconds and Rachel after 1 minute 27 seconds. The listeners sided with Dave though, so the song played all the way through.

DISCUSSING MLS AND LOVE ON THE SOFA:
Around 7:40 this morning, Chris and the gang discussed the fact that they could push U2 off the top spot in the UK download chart with their superb ‘Dogz don’t Kill People (Wabbitz do)’. Rachel said they would get to speak to Scott live next Wednesday during the Download chart whenever they charted, all be it number 1, or 2, or 3 etc…

We currently have a vote, here on chrismoyles.net on which position you think MLS will chart next Wednesday. Click here to go the main page and cast your vote.

Rachel’s plea started shortly after 8:00. She announced to the world that she was looking for a man, and a sofa, and preferably, both together. They got thousands of texts from listeners and read some out after 8:30 Newsbeat. Favourites included James, Adrian (who’s 23 and a truck driver) and Lee from Lincolnshire. And as Chris and Dave quite correctly put it, it was ‘Love in the Lounge’

Could this be Rachel’s dream living room?

ANTIPODEAN SOAP OPERAS, TEDIOUS LINK AND MORE LOVE AT HALF TIME:
Shortly before 8:30 Newsbeat, after hearing the advert for the new Drama, Silver Street on the BBC Asian Network, Dave sparked a row as to the name of a Soap Opera with Doctors and Nurses. They instantly ruled out Casualty, Holby City and Doctors (which Chris said didn’t have any patients in) and Dave said it was either from Australia or New Zealand. Texts flooded in asking if it was Stellar Street, or Shortland Street. The team was sure it was Shortland Street, but Dave just couldn’t remember. Oh well… what a shame!

Tedious Link
Wheatus’ follow up to ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ was a cover of 1988 hit, “A Little Respect” by Erasure. Erasure sounds like eraser, which is what Americans call a rubber. Rubber is made of trees, trees are made from wood. Wood, first name Victoria, is a famous comedienne from Lancashire. Lancashire is a county full of world famous beauty spots such as Wigan Pier and Blackpool Tower. Blackpool Tower looks similar to the Eiffel Tower in Pairs. Paris is the capital of France who are a major European producer of onions. Onion, or more precisely, French Onion, is a top selling flavour of soup; soup shares many of the same letters as soap, which is made from horses. Horses can be a very good form of transportation in poor countries that don’t have trucks and stuff and can be used to transport things like bananas and coffee. Coffee is a popular drink in the United States of America, where the coffee capital is the city of Seattle and when you think of Seattle in the context of great bands from the early 90’s, you think of Pearl Jam, which links us to this morning’s fantastic tedious link: It is Pearl Jam and Alive.

Flaws:
> Chris said that Dave’s Tree / wood story was wrong – I don’t see a problem though (mind you it is almost midnight when I’m writing this)
> Horses do not make soap, although they do contribute in the making of glue, to what extent, I don’t know…

mmmm…. Soapy….

Half Time was funny today, a) because Chris could not get the echo working so Dave had to use cups to make an echo sound during ‘Let’s Get Ready to Raaaaaammmmmble’ (later fixed) and also that b) there was a hefty discussion about 90’s television show, Loveboat.

Aled found the theme tune on the BBC system and played it while Dave sang along:

’Love, Exciting and You.
Come Aboard, we’ve been expecting you…
And love, like Sweetest reward,
It floats back to you.
And Loveboat, soon we’ll be making another run.
The Loveboat, promising something for everyone.
Set a course for adventure, your mind on a new romance.
And Love, won’t hurt anymore,
It’s an open Smile, on a friendly Shore,
It’s love, welcome aboard, it’s love!

During Dave’s singing, they received more than 10000 texts saying listeners remembered it. Apparently it’s knocking around Sky on a Friday, although I haven’t found it yet.

At the end of half time, the lines were closed for car park catchphrase as they were using the callers from yesterday who didn’t get a proper chance to play because time ran out.

CARPARK CATCHPHRASE:
Rachel, an Air Hostess from Portsmouth 2
Ian, from Didcot 1

After the suspense of the last 24 hours, the two callers got a chance to play again. Ian took the first catchphrase, but after some fixing by Chris, Rachel took the next 2, and therefore the game.

Hope you’ve enjoyed the review, sorry it took so long – next week’s should be ready for Thursday Evening! Oh and a little plug for the Buzz Off Section (again) – It will now be updated every Friday with the week’s Buzz’s.

Cya all!
