“No but yeah but if you don’t let me in Blazin Squad are well gonna give you beatings…”
It’s a very cold Friday night in November, and it is of course Children In Need night, I’ve decided to give it a miss again this year. It hasn’t been that good in recent years! And I work in a charity shop all day so nobody can accuse me of not caring!
Anyway, Pudsey was in the Radio 1 building this morning apparently, Nemone met him early on, but didn’t know what to do, as he doesn’t talk. He was probably more entertaining than her then!
Last night was the MTV Europe Music Awards, in Rome. Edith Bowman was there as ever, this set Chris, Dave and Dom off doing French accents. Not quite sure what relevance that holds as I always thought Rome was in Italy, I was waiting for the texts to come in, indeed they did! Plenty of them! Chris said it was only a joke, of course everybody makes “jokes” from time to time, Chris said “Danke Schon” to everyone who texted in, that’s better!
Chris is presenting Top Of The Pops tonight. Sadly, I’ve missed it, as it was on earlier on BBC2 because of Children In Need. It’s repeated Saturday night/Sunday morning at 1.40am. He was ok last time, but I don’t think I’ll bother this time, even at the weekend it’s too late!
New jingle this morning after 7.00:
“We’re heading to the end of our first year in the morning
We’ve added lots of listeners and stopped Great Britain snoring
Seven million people tune in daily which is great
Now go and tell all of your friends it’s getting up to eight
The Chris Moyles Show, National Radio One”
BUZZ OFF:
Chris promised a corker this morning, but also said some will love it(Dom) and some will hate it(Dave), and Rachel would just buzz when it was time to play the next record. It was Level 42 “Something About You” released in 1985. Dave buzzed first, then Rachel, then Aled. 54% buzz on. Not the most popular, but a reasonable choice. Dave thought it was muck. And can’t understand Chris’ taste, how he can go from one great record a day to a rubbish one, it does seem very varied!
FRIDAY FOOTIE COMP:
That time of the week again footie fans! This week’s game was Portsmouth V Man City, the tickets were for the Portsmouth end at Fratton Park, I have to say though, our need for three points is greater than theirs! On Line 1, it was Jay, a big Pompey fan, which helps! He says he doesn’t get to go much anymore(Is it me or is it exactly the same story every week?), as his wife doesn’t seem to let him, but she’s obviously fine with him ringing up a radio competition to get some tickets! Sorry, I am gonna be sarcastic about Pompey, since we’re playing them tomorrow! On Line 2, it was Neil, who, as Chris pointed out, sounded like he was in the bath, nothing like that, just not a very clear line! Neil wanted to take his eight year old son, who’s never been to a game before, and ran upstairs and put his Pompey top on when I heard his Dad on the radio. Neil won with 83% of the votes, he’ll be going to Fratton Park tomorrow. Although, with a bit of luck, he won’t be happy with the result!
CHRIS AND DAVE’S FOOTIE PREDICTIONS:
Of course Friday is also the day before Saturday, which means it’s time for Chris and Dave to once again give their predictions for tomorrow’s football games. Chris got none right last week, Dave got three. Here’s how they did this week:
Man United V Charlton
Chris: Home Win, Dave: Home Win
Arsenal V West Brom
Chris: Home Win, Dave: Home Win
Chelsea V Bolton
Chris: Home Win, Dave: Home Win
Crystal Palace V Newcastle
Chris: Away Win, Dave: Home Win
Everton V Fulham
Chris: Draw, Dave: Home Win
Middlesborough V Liverpool
Chris: Draw, Dave: Home Win
Norwich V Southampton
Chris: Home Win, Dave: Home Win
Chris had another little rehearsal for Top Of The Pops at 8.15 with Dave, he had to introduce Lostprophets. Dave said it sounds like he’s reading too fast, and reading off autocue. He tries again, but Dave thinks its too cheesy, and he should be more natural. Third attempt: “They’ve got tattoos, it’s Lostprophets” that should do it! I never really thought being a TOTP presenter involved having much of a personality anyway! Dave won’t be able to watch tonight, as he’s presenting an award at the Student Radio Awards. So is Aled. Rachel is out having a party. Aled suggested Chris should dress up as who he’s introducing, so get a load of fake tattoos for Lostprophets, and a wig and a miniskirt for Alicia Keys, that’d be too funny for Top Of The Pops!
SECRET STUDENT
I actually thought they’d ditched this pointless feature, but after a while, it was back this morning. He went out with a foreign girl this week, and found it to be very dull and boring, then he had to go to a lecture that he should have been going too since the start of university but didn’t realise. Quality radio this I think you’ll agree! He left two messages talking about his late class and his dull date. Although not as dull as this feature so I won’t write anything else about it, but if you like this kind of thing on the radio, Scott Mills is back on Monday from 4pm.
Half Time, the bit where Dave says…
LETS GET READY TO RAMBLE!!!!
There was a very special guest in the studio. It was Mel B, the Bo Selecta one, who doesn’t speak English. It was probably the first time in the history of his show, but Chris couldn’t get a word in! I suppose guests like that aren’t made for radio, although they’re not made for TV either in my opinion! Mel has apparently done a record(The Bo Selecta one obviously, don’t be silly!) She probably said a few lines about it, but I heard none of them! There is a Bo Selecta book out at the moment apparently, it’ll be on everyone’s Christmas list I’m sure! I know a lot of people like this show, but I just can’t understand it, less so after listening to this dreadful interview! Pudsey was also in very briefly at 9.15, he said nothing, a tip which Bo Selecta Mel could have used! I wanted to go down to that studio and switch her mic off myself! Chris played Avid Merrion’s new single, his version of I Got You Babe, I won’t say anything about it, don’t wanna get anymore hate mail from Bo Selecta fans!
CARPARK CATCHPHRASE
Sadly, Mel still hadn’t gone by this time, and even managed to ruin the greatest radio feature ever. Roy Walker spoke the most sensible words all morning when asked about Bo Selecta:
“It’s not really my sort of thing”
Would I watch Bo Selecta? I wouldn’t do that if you paid me! They had a bit of a continuing row, telling each other to “shut up” it went on for a while, on with the show, if we must:
On Line 1, it’s contestant number one:
Jim, a bar manager: 2
On Line 2, it’s contestant number two:
Richard, a plasterer: 0
Say goodbye Mr Fish, he’s waving!
An OK show this morning, just the last hour was spoilt by Mel B. Sorry to all Bo Selecta fans, actually no I’m not! Anyway, I promise next week’s review will be slightly earlier, as I have a week off work now, so I’ll see you then!
ALSO ON TODAY’S SHOW:
A mention of the Band Aid 20 video
It’s been snowing!
Short conversation about the lead singer of Keane
More Terry Wogan/Ken Bruce impressions
What did you think of todays show/review? Let us know on the messageboard!
