Aled is turning into a renegade interviewer, Chris' voice is gruff, and Dave is sniffly. Welcome to the Radio 1 breakfast show everybody!
Chris has managed 9 days and nights without beer so far... only another 21 to go! Dave is ‘bored' of not drinking, and thinking of restructuring his Detox, Rachel, Dave & Aled are in Zoo Magazine this week, which (according to Chris) is “flying off the shelf”. Apparently Aled looks 40 and Rachael looks 'half decent'. Chris is excited, by tonight he'll have his boiler fixed and broadband installed. This means he'll be able to compete against Argentine and Norwegian X-Box geeks.
Chris had an in-depth conversation yesterday about scart leads with his friend Fozzie down the pub last night. Unfortunately, some girls overheard them both, looked over and gave them that “you're-a-geek-look”. I know it well.
Isn't Dominic Byrne's ‘One Road Travel' jingle fantastic!? Beep Beep indeed! Pop-a-doodle-do!
STAR PUPIL
JK & Joel are in Sheffield for Star Pupil. Feeder surprised 17-year-old Andy Meadowcroft, who went to Notre Dame School (v.posh!). Unfortunately, he (and Feeder, of course!) all have Double Politics to start the day. Nice. To be fair, Feeder were great and sounded superb when they performed later on in the day. Bless ‘em, they even managed to make Andy cry by giving him a signed guitar.
GUEST - PAUL MCKENNA
The lovely Paul McKenna came into the studios today because <s>he has a new book out</s> to help the gang about their Detox. It was actually quite a ‘mature' conversation (for Chris anyway), with discussions about manifestations that cause phobias and how to solve them. (What is this, Radio 4?!) Paul was very impressed with the new studios – especially the ‘starship enterprise' style desk. Also, the Little Britain character (look into my eyes, my eyes…) is loosely based on Paul according to David Walliams. Paul is actually a former Radio 1 DJ, but resigned after 6 months to pursue his hypnotism career.
Chris went into his phobia about flying (which we gather Paul has cured him of) and the techniques he used to cure Chris. He basically played some Benny Hill music and got Chris to randomly tap his shoulder / eyelids. Does that say more about Chris or Paul? I'm not quite sure!
DAVES'S TEDIOUS LINK - WILL SMITH to JANE'S ADDICTION
Will Smith starred in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, air is what animals need to breathe. Breathe is a song title that links the Prodigy with Kylie Minogue and more recently, Fabulous. If you add the word “Absolutely” to “Fabulous” you get ‘Absolutely Fabulous' which is a long running comedy series for girls. ‘Girls, Girls, Girls' was a 1987 hit for Motley Crue, Crewe is like paradise if you're a saddo and into trainspotting, ‘Trainspotting' is a film starring Ewan McGregor, who travelled round the world in a motorcycle. 'Motorcycle Emptiness' was a hit for the Manic Street Preachers. ‘Preachers' rhymes with ‘Teachers' who are the second largest group of people in a school. ‘School' is a word associated with ‘fish', and fish can bea good, natural source of iron. Iron Maiden are fronted by legendary rock midget Bruce Dickenson, who was a qualified pilot and also very good at fencing. Fencing of a different type is what you might use to build a rabbit hutch. 'Hutch' in the movie Starsky & Hutch was played by actor Owen Wilson, alongside Ben Stiller, Snoop Doggie-Dog and Carmen Electra, Carmen Electra is married to Dave Navarro, from Jane's Addiction which links predictably links us to today's track – Jane's Addiction – ‘Just Because'
LET'S GET READY TO RAMBLE!
It's BB Aled time again! Tonight everyone is up for eviction, and nobody knows who's up for eviction. Jeremy managed to squeeze seven Queen song titles into conversation, which (I presume) was some sort of task. (ignore my ignorance, I'm not a BB fan). Aled thinks Lisa will be evicted tonight. Chris hopes so, because he finds her bossy. Caprice is a bit dull, but harmless although there is a bit of “history” between her and Chris. (She released a record many moons ago, which Chris took the p*ss out of. I don't think Caprice ever forgave Chris, as THIS audio proves.)
CARPARK CATCHPHRASE
Good morning Car Park fans! Today's contestants
Izzie, a nanny from Buckhinghamshire - 1
Adam Hiscocks, who works at Little Chef in Rugeley, in Staffs - 2
Catchphrases: “No Time Like The Present” – “Pull Your Finger Out” – “Nip It In The Bud”
Average show to be honest, although Chris & Dave's impression of Terry Wagon (just before CPC) was hilarious! Sorry for the delay in the review, hope it was ok!
