Moyles open phone lines certainly made a refreshing change today. He did this a few days ago, when he got the guy with the bad NY/jewish/mafia voice.
"Stop putting on that stupid voice"
Today, he got somebody with a bad 'norman' voice.
"Stop putting on that stupid voice"
He did open phonelines a few months back - whereby he got people to ring up with their impressions (in Sound Vault). This was class, as was the recent phone-ins. Funny radio, he seems to enjoy it, fills up a link. But thats not the remit of the show - he knows that. He did a phone in show on Crapital, as we all know, and I can see him doing a dedicated phone-in show in the future.
talkSPORT? It's a possibility. He said he enjoys the breakfast show - obviously likes the phone-in/talk style (Moyles has about 25 links in each of his shows - totalling over 1 1/2 of talk). He could cover for some presenters as well as do his R1 show..... or am I just dreaming.
Moyles used to listen & was a regular caller to Nick Abbot. Nick presented a late night phone-in show on Virgin where he gather a huge audience for a great show. Then he got sacked from the show, presented an afternoon music show on Virgin where he was asked to do less talk, more music. He didn't like that. He took a job at talkSPORT (Talk Radio in them days) as well as his afternoon show. New management in TR (Kelvin Mackenzie) got him sacked. He was then sacked from Virgin. Ever since he has gone from station to station (usually local) doing temporary jobs. He was last on Real Radio in South Wales. It's sad that such a superb broadcaster can't find a job. WHY?
Theres a few similarities between Abbot and Moyles (especially the afternoon show and less talk more music). I can see Moyles doing something other than his current format - TS would be a massive drop in audience/money for him and we know about his TV carrer. He seems happy at R1 (he says it's his 'Dream Job'), but he is even happier doing phone-ins/talk. My only concern is that (and a few people have said this) he will try too hard to offend the caller ('Dippy cow', 'Fat pig', 'Geek') and live up to his, somewhat unjustified, shock-jock title.
the_dr (It's late, I'm listening to Ian Collins and had to get these thoughts down somewhere)
