You need a CD ripper such as CD-Ex to take the information off the CD and save them as MP3's.

Go to download.com for rippers

WARNING - not all CD's nowadays will rip as the have protection tags on them so you just get fuzz. If this is the case then you need some sort of recorder such as Cool Edit (get a free copy from syntrillium.com)

I've downloaded the Cool Edit recorder but when I record for example something playing in Media player there is some really bad interference or background buzz but whatever it is... it's bad.
Anybody help? :?

You need to adjust your recording settings.
If you are recording from a media player you need to -

- Double click on the volume tab on the bottom of your screen
- Choose 'Options', 'Proporties' and 'Recording'
- Click OK
- Select 'Stereo Mix'
- In Cool Edit press record and play the source (PS test the level (bottom) should be about -3. If it isn't just change the volume on the previous volume settings)
- There you go

I still think that ripping a CD is easier but you will have to do it this way if the CD is copyrighted.

It wasn't actually for the ripping bit it's just that I've been looking for a decent FREE sound recorder for ages and I've finally found one.
Thanks for the help coz I needed to know that anyway.
Nothing ever seems to work first time on this damn computer - Ah well cheers!

Ok, thanks Magicman.

I don't think you do have to pay for the player uglybob, it's just the Big Brother live coverage you have to pay for.

Weeman if you're copying from a cd then at the bottom of cool edit you should be able to record by playing the cd through that. Just change the recording selection to cd on the volume adjustment and play the cd play clicking the play button.

If you haven't got the cd player options at the bottom of cool edit then press the button at the top of a cd (this may be diabled on the free copy)
