It was 1992 and thats when Clinton came along as Bush senior was from 1988-92. I only said 92 as it's the only president I can remember being half decent, there wasn't much choice out of him and some Bushes.

I dont understand the American politcal system. Whats a sentor - is it a American version of a English member of Parliement?

Amazing how "important" it for people what country he was born in. He's lived most his life in the US and is obviously dedicated to the country. I was born in South Africa but only lived there 2 and a half years. Apart from another 2 and a half years in the US, the rest of my time has been in Britain.
Does that make me South African or British or both.
My parents are both British. That makes a difference too I guess.
If I'd been born in America I guess I'd be American but no one ever says I'm South African.

Anyway, I reckon a constitution change will be in the pipeworks if he does a good job as senator. Probably read something like "Only Americans and rich Hollywood stars can be president".

people are talking about making a constiutional amendment so that non-native citizens can become president, ie arnie.

american senators and congressmen are like members of parliament. the congressman is closer to the british mp in some respects. both members of congress are elected. senators- 2 per state, 6 year terms. congressmen- 1 per district (based upon area and population), 2 year terms. so there are 100 senators and ~340 congressmen.

sort of, as both houses of congress (the senate and the house of representatives) must approve of a bill before it goes to the president to sign. unlike the house of lords, they're elected and not there for life.
