I'm creating a web site in dreamweaver MX and the site is looking good enough now and I'm ready to publish it. I have published it already to my ntlworld web space and all is good but the url is obviously really long winded and not very relevant to the audience. I know that to change the URL I will have to register a domain name but I have a few questions:

1) how do I do this (Where do I go etc, how much should it cost)

2) when I've done it, what do I do with the address I've registered?

3)How can I add the address as an alias to my ntlworld site i.e how do I set it so you can type the new domain name (the purchased/registered one) into the address bar and the NTLworld site will still appear (even though it's actual URL is the long winded one I wanted to change). I know you can do this, just don't know how.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! People must have done this before.

1) Find a registrar (I use http://www.123-reg.co.uk). Less than 10 quid for 2 years for a .co.uk, about 21 quid for a .com (for 2 years).

2) Use web forwarding (which you setup through the registrar control panel) to point it to your NTL space.

3) See 2

it's alright. done it. thanks for your help, especially Matt. I got my domain name (a co.uk one) for £6.09 for two years, suits me and it's all set up, it'll just take a couple of days to register and be ready to use.

well, I'm happy enough although the domian still doesn't work yet (but I was told it could take up to three days. yesterday when I typed in my new url it just went to MSN search as it couldn't find the page, today it's teasing me. It's starts to show my page (well it labels the window and in the status bar you can see the old long URL) but then goes to a page called Netser or soemthing.
