david davis is obviously sexier but has ruled himself out of the job. i'd like portillo to get it as ive seen him a few times on this week (is that the right name?) an hes more normal than most tories.

if not portillo then ken clarke.

If only Michael Portillo or William Hague ran for the job they'd stand a far better chance of winning the next election, but I don't think either of them want the position. If anybody but them gets the job they'll likely preside over the death of the tories.

hague is a spent force but i'd never write the tories off. we do need a decent opposition.

Hague only lost out last time because it was too early to be trying to oppose Labour. The tories would have lost no matter who was running them.

I thought Hague was a great leader, I don't know why he stood down. The Michael Howard picture ain't working for me, but he's an ugly bugger. I'd vote for Widdecombe though, just for the comedy value.

Well Hague won a poll on radio 2 for being the most honest politican a couple of months back so I think people still like him and they trust him, and those are certainly things that are lacking in other politicians.

Well, it looks like it's going to be Michael Howard with any other challengers. At least that means that the infamous newsnight interview is going to get trotted out a few times again. That was funny. :)

Well, at least there could be one good thing. Michael Howard is likely to give William Hague a position in the shadow government bringing him back to prominance again. So when the tories lose the next election he may reconsider taking the party's reigns again.

I very much doubt Hague will ever return as much as I wish he would.

hague is done, which is sad as he had promise. i think he just got involved too young, and there fore peaked too soon.

portillo... i would laugh...

Portillo at least looks as though he could be a leader, IDS has always looked like a back bencher.

well, it's because he's "the quiet man."

portillo- he's a little too loose.
