I love listening to Colin and Edith at my workplace at the weekends. I really don't see the appeal of Mark and Lard, I always find it samey. Shoutouts to whatever chants they have in the voices of Jim McDonald grate on me and lose their originality quickly. And that pop quiz they do, when you guess the scenario drags on. I like sharper sort of radio, more random. Mark and Lard always seems similar to me, with the features.

But saying that, I only generally listen to them in holidays, because of education.

colin and edith are good.

Mark and Lard are great. the way some of their features are always good is great. Bit like Little Britain on BBC 3.

although I can catch bits of mark and lard through the week I mostly have lessons at college when they are on. Then it gets to half-term (last week) and they are on holiday again  - although Scott Mills did a good job (as usual) filling in.

The fact they are mostly away at half-term is obviously something to do with the fact that they have children and take the same holidays as them.

I am warming to Colin and Edith also (it took a while granted)...

Not sure about half terms 'cos I'm at work (I don't even have a clue when half term is now - first thing I know of it is when we get prank calls on the Vaseline Careline) but they always seem to be off on bank holidays.

For the morning I'd have DLT, the hairy monster, complete with his quack quack oops jingle. He's funny. Then at 10am I'd plump for the return of the talented Dim (Dream) team, providing they could steal Tony Blackburns dog Arnold from his old R1 studio to add some intellect to the proceedings. After John Craven's newsbeat at 12:45-1pm, I'd want to listen once again to someone that doesn't take themselves too seriously, perhaps 2 hrs of the highly rated Rajesh Merchangine would fit the bill, as he's known for his quick wit and ready rappartee. Then at 3pm Steve Penk would be great for 3 hrs of hilarious anecdotes and incredible cheeky phone windups. Gosh, I'd be splitting my sides with his crazee antics. For drive time I'd bring back Richard Blackwood, a quality broadcaster if ever there was one. I'd wrap the day up with the highly literate Lisa EYIE.....'ason, someone you could always rely on to never mess her lines whilst on air, or talk about Landon town life to the point of overkill.

I think bringing back this merry bunch of incompetents (Normski excepted, who's a wasted talent in UK broadcasting) would really help R1 once again get 'down with the kids'. Or something....

thats because mayo is the king of blanddom and you aspire to reach that kind of status sidla.

mayo always seemed out of place to me on radio 1 hes seems ok now where he is (where i dont listen)

He wasn't bland though, he was entertaining for 3 hours, which is something none of the other Radio 1 DJs achieve. Bring back the 2hr shows I say.

Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else, but could this be mark and lard on their way out?

BBC Radio 1 is gearing up to sign a couple of northern DJs being billed as "the new Ant and Dec".
Jason Griffith and Joel Hogg - better known as JK and Joel, the breakfast show hosts on Emap's Manchester station Key 103 - have become one of radio's hottest properties.

Radio 1 intends to be at the front of the queue to snap them up once their contract with Key runs out next year.

"We think JK and Joel are a great team. As far as we know they are under contract to Emap right now and we respect that," said a spokesman for Radio 1.

"But if they were interested in moving on from there we would certainly be interested in talking to them," he added.

The Radio 1 controller, Andy Parfitt, has made a series of changes to the DJ line-up to refresh the station's image after its ratings sunk to their lowest ever level - 9.85 million listeners.

In January the breakfast host, Sara Cox, will change places with the afternoon presenter, Chris Moyles, while the 4am-7am host, Scott Mills, will swap shows with the weekend afternoon presenter, Nemone.

T4 presenter Vernon Kaye will present a Sunday showbusiness slot in the new year, joining a weekend schedule that has the jovial pairing of Colin Murray and Edith Bowman at its heart.

Radio industry insiders believe JK and Joel are likely to land a spot on Radio 1's weekend schedule as they are newcomers to national radio.

Mr Parfitt has a track record of introducing national radio unknowns to the station - he hired 24-year-old Wes Butters from Chrysalis Radio's Galaxy station in Newcastle a year ago to take over the chart show from veteran Mark Goodier.

If Radio 1's current comedy duo, Mark and Lard, make the move to Radio 2 mooted by some BBC insiders, JK and Joel's cheeky on-air antics could be the ideal replacement.

However, Emap is not likely to let them go without a fight. They are one of the main attractions in its Big City network of regional stations, having won a host of awards including a Sony Silver earlier this year, losing the main prize to Xfm's Christian O'Connell.

The pair's agent, Grant Michaels of Somethin' Else Talent, said JK and Joel are content at Key and were lining up television work, having presented a music and TV magazine programme called Pure on BBC3.

"People say they're a bit like a young Ant and Dec. They are great guys in the same sort of way," he said.

"But they are contracted well into next year and are staying at Key at the moment."

JK and Joel have hosted Key's breakfast show for three years, having joined forces at Viking Radio in Hull when Hogg was moved from the afternoon show to join Griffiths at breakfast.

Their laddish rapport was an instant hit with listeners and they signed to Key's breakfast show, where former Capital and Virgin Radio DJ Steve Penk made his name.

So that would fit in with the rumours that when Mark and Lard leave Scott Mills will take over their show leaving a weekend show open for these to take over.

Quote me on this when it happends. If it doesn't dont

That would be fantastic. JK and Joel are brilliant. They really are wasted on the breakfast show on Key. They've been there 3 years and the station is so sh*te without them. At first I never took to them but they are great now and I hope they do get a gig at Radio 1.

On a side note, I always thought they were called Jason King (hence the JK) and Joel Ross but there you go...shows what I know.

Has anyone been listening to Mark and Lard - any reason to why they are at the Radio One studios in London and not their studio in Manchester?

Yeah, happens every year. Why do they do their show from Manchester anyway? All the other DJs have to broadcast from London, why shouldn't they?

Bit like working from home I guess - you will offer them the chance to work from Manchester if you want them to work for you enough.
