Tonight is the annual Radio 1 station photo and this year it's also being held on the same night as the Radio 1/1Xtra Christmas Party. Chris said that Parf Daddy has been asking around for a few DJs from both stations to DJ tonight at the party. Chris and Dave have been given the prestigious honour of kicking things off at 9.15. Chris said he was very proud of this until he found out that a lot of the guests won’t be arriving until after 10. Westwood is apparently DJing straight after Chris and Dave. Dave suggested they do a big soundclash with him. Chris thought of DJ names for them. He settled for Sir EatsAlot and DJ Titty (although I’m guessing from Chris’s clues for the second one as Chris wouldn’t say it on the air). Both Chris and Dave had brought in CDs from home to use tonight and Chris decided to delve into the fudge tunnel and play a few randomly, that he could perhaps use tonight. As Dave might say it really was ‘infotainment’. Chris played bits of Madonna - Holiday, Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up, Musical Youth - Pass The Dutchie, Baltimora - Tarzan Boy (target), Communards - Don’t Leave Me This Way, Kajagoogoo - Too Shy (big studio singalong) and Go West. Rachel said she met Peter Cox from Go West when she was producing Colin & Edith’s show. She said he was a lovely man. Chris said it was a fascinating story.
Chris also played a bit of Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic by the Police. He said that was the one to save for the slow dance in the ‘erection selection’. His genius line was ‘Grab your girl, don’t just phone her, here’s a song to give you a.......dance’. Chris wanted to play a ZZ Top Megamix from 1992 but Rachel said he needed clearance. Chris celebrated the fact that he has got the hits up on Dave Spikeys website (http://www.davespikey.co.uk/) by 27,000 since yesterdays show. Rachel took her Darkness album with her to the States. Amazingly all four of the team now own a copy of it, although Chris said he would have expected Aled to have traded it in for the Best Of Gloria Estefan by now. Once in mid-link today there was a loud noise from the opposite studio that bled through on to the air. Chris said Dave Pearce was in there and everyone was clapping and cheering. That sounds to me like a Dance Anthems pre-record but Chris said it was down to the fact that a new delivery of baseball caps had arrived next door. Chris and Dave played a Hear It First track by Missy Elliott that gave it’s own unique take on Push It by Salt N Pepa. Chris wasn’t convinced by it. I can’t possibly imagine why....oh yes cos it was bollocks.
Boyd Hilton has amazingly put down the show as his Pick Of The week in Heat Magazine’s Radio Highlights Section this week. He gave it 3 and a half stars out of 5. However, on second look it was a lower rating than most of the other shows mentioned. Chris thanked Boyd (he is obviously trying to make friends at Heat again). In Heat this week there are pictures from the waxworks at Louis Tussaud’s in Great Yarmouth. They were really crap & funny and Chris said that if Rachel didn’t laugh at them (she hadn’t seen them) then he’d give her £60. She laughed. There was one of Freddie Mercury that Dave thought was meant to be snooker player Jimmy White. Chris found more crap Louis Tussaud’s waxworks online via http://www.blackpoollive.com/.
LATE MONDAY SURGERY (Nurse Dave said it was due to long waiting lists and a shortness of beds)
1 LOUISE - Should she watch Holland v Scotland or do girly stuff with her mates tomorrow. Dr Chris said watch the game and he hoped that every Scotland player scores a hatrick. Dave - ‘It’d be quite a scoreline’.
2 JAMES - No-one had a clue what he was on about. Something involving his mates and a bus but Chris got bored and cut him off.
3 MARIA - Had her car egged last night. Knew who it was and wanted to get her own back in a different way. Dr Chris said to poo in the back of their car. Dave said it was good advice.
4 NICK - Cold Stella cans or not so cold Kronenberg cans tonight. Stella wins hands down.
5 BRIAN - Should he risk being sacked and divorced by flying to Amsterdam tomorrow to try and get a ticket for the Scotland game. Straightforward one this - Yes.
Chris played a game with Dominic and Afroman asking them to guess the song in one chord. Noone in the studio with the exception of Micky in Newsbeat. The song was Sly Fox and Lets Go All The Way. Chris did an impression of Rod McKenzie, head of Newsbeat, in a really posh voice. Chris wanted to play all the rest of it but asked the young kids to text in if they liked it. Cue 81199 text vote VOTE SLY YES and VOTE SLY NO. 52% of the audience said they liked it. Chris said they might use it in their half hour dj set at xmas party/photo. Chris said that he reckoned that someone would do a cover version of it soon. Chris said that the Sugababes have done it, or homaged it in a new song on their new album. The song is on Now 8 if you are wondering, I think, though dont quote me on that. If he really wanted to divide an audience he should have played the classic from Matt Bianco "Get Out Of Your Lazy Bed" from 1984. Chris said the Alex Parks song sounded a bit like Beautiful Souths Old Red Eyes is Back. Chris wanted a good DJ name for tonight. Dave suggested a text which said Flabbio and Bike Rider and said he had elbows pads and a helmet.
Chris went on the wheels of steel and started mixing. He had some of Jive Bunnys greatest ever hits along with some 80's classics whilst Rachel was munching sweets in the background. Chris played James Brown "Living In America" and tried to segue it into ZZ Top and Gimme All Your Lovin with him sampling James "Owwww" scream all the way through. Dave said it didnt work as it was a different tempo and key.
Rachel noticed that Spoony was watching them and walking past whilst they were mixing ZZ Top. Chris asked if it would suit the 1Xtra audience. Chris said that Spoony couldnt mix. Well you know what happened next, Mr Ego walked into the studio to give him a masterclass. Spoony said less is more. The ZZ Top song was a megamix from the makers of Jive Bunny and were allowed clearance because Mark Wilson agreed. Chris apologized in advance for the crapness of tomorrows shows because everyone will have a hangover. Chris had the perfect song for Aled to dance to at the party... yes the gay stereotypes again as Chris played YMCA by the Village People.

Stereophonics Local Boy In the Photograph - A photo is taken with a camera - Aztec Camera were a Scottish band fronted by Roddy Frame and interestingly the camera theme is continued because a photograph would be a good thing to put in a frame - Another thing that looks good in a frame is a painting - Painting is something you might do with a brush - Brush shares many of the same letters as Thrush which is a type of small bird - A bird in the hand is worth two in a bush - Bush is something you might find in Australia - Australia was a 1996 hit for the Manic Street Preachers - Preachers often wear robes - If you add the letters ST to the word robes, you get Strobes which is a type of lighting you might find in a nightclub - Nightclubs are often very dark as are the darkest depths of the ocean floor which is somewhere where you might find lots of big fish and eels - Which links us to the Eels and Novocaine for the Soul
