ah y'see now it makes sense why you put this Aled. I didn't know the suits were after you to "look forward". I'm guessing Chris wanted to look back but has been told not to?...there's no way you'll confirm that but it's worth a try...

...also on the subject of avid, there's no way you're telling me Chris was in control today Aled...that said he was still a brilliant guest.

Avid always uses words that are meant to sound like swearing. The 'Bell End' thing in context of not leting his Bell End (refering to the Darkness song) wasn't bad.

No I wasn't listening that close. That's why I didn't hear the context in which he said bell end.

Both Chris and Dave seemed afraid of what Avid was going to do next!

I don't think Dave was. When Chris tried talking to Dave he couldn't speak because he was laughing so much.

Of COURSE Chris was in complete control. Work it out for yourself - if the presenter isn't in control of an interview it's BBC guidelines for Rachel to end it immediately - Rachel didn't so that should show you Chris was in control and everyone was happy. I can't say too much otherwise I could get into trouble, but Avid and Chris are friends and we all know where the line is, and as it stands -today- we're very happy with how it went.

Like people have said, along with the Will Young Interview - today was one of the best interviews Ive heard in a while.

I'd hate this show to really make the papers for a Celeb swearing so all in all im glad he didnt. But wouldn't you agree he was near to over stepping the mark with a few things. I've never really heard him on the Chris Moyles Show or infact any other interview for that matter but surely you were worried a little bit in the back of the mind.

It did actually sound as if Chris was finding it hard to really stop him at one point. You could just hear Dave was worried a little and on tender hooks to what he would say next.

Like Aled says - Avid is a friend and I don't think he would of gone that far to waste a perfect chance to plug a really good Xmas Record.

Top Interview Aled...

to be fair though aled could relax anyway because he would hold no responsibility for avid swearing. no panic until producer aled i guess

I think it was just for dramatic effect. He is just a character, you know.

Aled, since you've been at Radio 1, would you say the standard of BJ's have gone up or down - surely you'd have some tips for the other staff?

im so immature

I think his 'immature' comment indicates that it's a deliberate typo.

no im afraid it was meant to say bj's. (hence the immature remark)

seems only ad actually understood what i was on about.

aled, will you and rachael be getting more cash for doing breakie seen as chris said him and dave will be?

yes - you must of had a high level of boredom there, paul :)

i'm sure some people will figure it out, although clearly the people at Radio 1 haven't a clue what your going on about.

anyway - moving on.

Aled:

If you are worried about swearing during interviews, can't you use one of those 7 second delays the commercial stations use for phone inns?
How hard is it to set up an outside broadcast such as from Inverness?

A little geeky, I know, but those seem to be your favourite questions.

That wouldn't have been very difficult at all because they did the show from BBC Inverness. I'm sure the setting up of outside broadcasts doesn't have much to do with Aled anyway.

I may not be Aled but I can give it a go... and I am geeky aswell, hence I can maybe answer this question.

It's all easy. At BBC Shetland when we want to connect to an Outside Broadcast... the OB dials into a special number in Glasgow (will be different for Radio 1 obviously) - and then in the studio we use our ISDN to dial into the same number... thus we then have a connection. Thats for using a thing called a Hotbox which allows us to get a microphone in anywhere that has a phone line.

I think the same goes for studio to studio... both studios dial into the Glasgow number and then they also have a connection. Thats why we need to book the line as another station within the BBC may be using it.

It's either that way or directly ISDN to ISDN in the studios, cutting out Glasgow for studio to studio, but I'm not too sure.

However Chris mentioned on air ages ago they have a system in their studio where they can 'connect' to any BBC Studio simply by typing the studio code. So that could of been how it was done at Radio 1 - but whats above is certainly how its done at BBC shetland (which is obviously a lot smaller station.)

Sorry to sound geeky...
