Neil Fox is leaving the Hit 40 UK chart show after 11 years as host.

The Sun claims producers want someone "younger and cooler" to host the Sunday pop countdown on commercial radio.

But Fox says he's left the job because he's so busy on the back of his success as a Pop Idol judge.

The DJ with London's Capital FM has presented Hit 40 UK, formerly known as the Pepsi Chart Show, since 1992. It's broadcast by 105 radio stations around the world.

The new production team will take over running the show in January and want someone "identifiable" with their young audience. The favourite is said to be T4 presenter June Sarpong 8O, although the replacement won't be announced until Fox leaves in the spring.

Fox said: "Over the past six months I have been juggling my daily radio shows with the chart and Pop Idol. Something just had to give and I decided that, sadly, it had to be the chart show.

"I really want the success of Hit 40 UK to continue. After 11 years in the job it feels like my baby. Pop Idol has opened some incredible doors for me and has allowed me to set up my own production company."

Fox will continue to present his weekday shows on Capital and is also looking to do more television work.

Ahhhhh what a shame Not. I don't even listen to the chart that much anyway but I'd rather listen tom Wes do it than Fox.

Probably. Does anyone watch Harry Hill's tv burp? He takes the mick out of Dr. Fox because he says the word 'tad' so much. He also takes does a feature called At home with the pop idol judges.

Its fairly funny - I think he's alright. He was doing a tv prog. for the run up to the comedy award. Takes a while to get used to him but all in all I think he's alright.

The TV Burp is good as it features around various happenings within TV as well as material performed by Hill. Its not like his old show that was rubbish..

All the bosses of radio 1 woould have been overjoyed when they thought that they might be following in their steps and getting someone younger, like wes, Maybe all these changes in both radio 1 and commercial radio might mean that they become the nations favourite station again.

When are they going to learn? If people wanted to listen to someone 'identifiable' with them then they wouldn't be listening to the radio, they'd be out with mates. I'd much rather listen to Simon Mayo, Mark and Lard, or even Noel Edmonds than some new upstart such as Wes.
