You are mystic if you already know the 2004 Christmas number one is Gary Hules.

nothing, as its not much point as the shops are shut xmas day, boxing day. usually the chart goes weird for like 4 weeks now because songs go up sometimes cos all the xmas songs go down and there are few releases. Fatboy Slim saw a market though in 1999 to achieve his only number 1 with Praise You. He put it in a week where he had I think 3 other new entries and easily scooped the top spot.
But now that Sophie Ellis Bextor, Posh Spice and Alistair from Fame Academy all releasing on the 29th and the pop idol on the 5th. I remember 1997 well, there was about 10 consecutive new number 1's at the start of the year because of the poor second week sales.
If your a poor pop group releasing a single in January can get you a good chart position. Look at 2000 when Scooch actually got to number 5 and Point (BYKER BYKER) Break in the top 10.

What a shocker. It's a good tune but it's not very seasonal. I just presumed the darkness would get it as they've been ahead all week. I thought Wes was taking the piss and was going to cut short the intro to number 2 like Goodier did all those years ago with Westlife and Cliff. Good to see Proper Crimbo getting top 5...oh and aaron, it's 2003 by the way...

What did Goodier do? Did he not like Cliff? Can't blame him, just doesnt sound like something he would do. A legend.

It was a straight battle between the two for xmas number one (I think it was millennium prayer and I Have A Dream but I could be wrong).

goodier played the jingle for number 2, started the intro to Westlife right up until the vocal, stopped it and then said "It's not Westlife" or words to that effect and played Cliff.

Not a very fascinating tale but something I just thought Wes was going to do when I heard him play the the intro to the darkness at number 2.
