As always, i record every show. No need to worry, i expect most of it will be up on the site.

I've got the day off so I will probably sleep through all of it. Maybe Chris will too.

If you know you are going to miss it wouldn't it be easier to set it up yourself to record? Surely that would be alot quicker than getting someone else over the internet to record it, edit it, upload it then you still have to download it all which will take a bit seen as it'll be pretty big.

Only a suggestion.

Maybe the American who asked for it on his last afternoon show changed his mind. I hope he does.

With the right software... and the right people... we could create our own 'Listen Again' feature...

However I would never suggest that as home taping is killing music.

I thought of that, but it would be a lot of bandwidth (that one show I put online used over 1GB of bandwidth), and the reason there may not be a BBC one is that Moyles wants money for it, and we wouldn't be wanting to take that away from him now, would we.

What about if we had our own servers, ie run it of a computer at home.
Also the BBC's legal department may have some isues as it is proberbaly illigal because we don't have permission.

I'm not dissing the idea, I'm just highlighting some of the minor complications.

right... this is only an idea, in no way what so ever am I suggesting we do it :P

We get a couple of people together, some real media webspace, write a visual basic program that will record it in real media then automatically upload it after the show to the webspace (we could have like 5 different recording people for different days.) It wouldnt be avaliable for download, only listening back in streaming real media...

places like streamguys will provide 50mb space with no bandwidth restrictions and a max of 10 listners at anyone time for like £10 a month... of course that would maybe only hold 2 shows (at 24kps real media quality) and wheter or not anyone would be prepared to do it...

plus dont make it avaliable to everyone, only members of the private area or something... but as I said, I dont ACTUALLY suggest we do this, it was only an idea I had late one evening *cough*

It could be done at lowish quality as I always suggest. I know I go on about this alot, but if the show was recorded at 64kbps hardly anyone would be able to tell the difference. Also, once you rip all the records out I imagine you could get each hour down to about half an hour. I make that (30x60x64)/8 = 14400kB per hour of Moyles. That makes it 42MB for a whole show. We could get 3 people to do an hour each. I would offer, but I don't have broadband.

it will be about 20MB if we were to use 21kps Real Media which is good enough quality if you just want to listen back to the show, maybe not clips... but just for listening back.

And if people complain they dont have Real One/Real Player then they would get it if they desperately wanted to listen to the show.

Is any one really prepared to record, edit out the songs, and upload everyday? A simple thing of posting the tedious links fell behind months (now brought up to date by Mr. MC though..) so does this have a chance of working?

It all seems a bit much just to post in the Private Forum for the active users in there.

I was going to suggest that you download the stream off the Raido 1 website using the playback thing, but I have noticed that the BBC don't have a thing for Chris Moyles.

Perhaps we could get the BBC to have a slot for Moyles on the Radio Player?

And then we could schedule for that (in theory) to be downloaded to someone's computer and for it to be uploaded automatically to a server.

Just an idea

If it was on listen again there wouldn't be a problem, noone would need to record it. It's just that it doesn't look like the BBC are going to do it.

Should the BBC put it on Listen Again then there'd be no need for this idea of ours. The idea I had wasn't to allow people to download the show, it would just be exactly the same as the BBC's listen again... where you could 'stream' the show for up to 24 hours later.

It wouldnt be that hard to write a piece of software that could automatically record it on someones computer then upload it to someones webspace afterwards, without any interaction from the actual computer user during this time... The program could start a recording at 7:00am and end at 10:00am and then upload the real media file to some webspace. It would need to be someone on broadband as it would require a lot of modem work from a 56k user, and they would need to be there to start and end the connection etc.

That was just my idea though...

Oh I see. I thought you guys wanted to create an archive of shows where people could stream each and every one on demand.

Sorry for my misunderstanding

The Beeb probably use some sort of automation software to encode and upload the clips to their Realservers so that they can be used on the radio player thing on their website. I seriously doubt there is someone there in their office recording it, encoding it and uploading it.

I read somewhere that they used some GUI automation software at the BBC to do live streams etc that would be able to record the commands that you used and you could press a play button and it would do them automatically for you a bit like when you do a macro in excel and press the play button.

Sat and today are up
