The music4 site says...

music 4 euro 2004: throughout euro 2004, chris is broadcasting his show live from a villa in portugal and music 4 is producing music imaging for the show, reflecting england's performance. this involves late night sessions following each england match to turn around new idents for the following morning's show.

do you not get the feeling thats a blatent lie... and in actual fact they would have made 2 jingles for the French one, one if they had won, and one if they had lost... although I suppose *if* England gets to the final... But I am sure like the rest of us music4 know that wont ever happen.

With reference to your comments i agree. there;s no wey they could of turned those jingles around quick enuf, especially being a sunday night!!!

music4 probably do have the power to do a turn around that quick... but I cant imagine they would when it would be so much easier to create 2 versions.

And on the topic of expensive... this is the BBC we are talking about. However it would be interesting to see how much Radio 1 have paid music4 since Janurary, what with all the Moyles stuff including the 'introduction song'. But I doubt we would never find out.

Ahhh! You are as sad as me! This is almost exactly what I was thinking when the respective jingles where being played. The joy of the BBC, due to the unique way it's funded of course.

But I'm sure that with Radio 1 and the BBC in general being an extremely faithful and long running customer, Music 4 will cut them a deal. Chris Moyles is also pretty close to Sandy Beech, the guy behind Music 4.

In addition, remember that the jingles aren't paid for as and when by the BBC. Instead, they come out of the programme budget. So the Show has to be sensible.

Another thing is that every time a new jingle is aired, it hasn't been completely re-written and re-recorded. Instead it is a singover - the singers sing acapella and this is put over the instrumental. So basically, all in all, Moyles has around three main cuts of jingle - that song, the bed and the normal theme - at his disposal. It's not difficult or massively expensive to get hold of singovers to put over them.

The Portugese musical edits aren't that difficult either - just a bit of guitar put over the main instrumental. These could have come from Radio 1's Portugal budget as well.

Still awake?

Yes it does. But compared to designing a new jingle it costs peanuts. Especially if you sing them all in one session.
