I have to say that gig was fooking awesome - with the exception of Chicks on Speed, who were bottled off stage just under half an hour in. Whilst I thought James Brown was a bit of a random choice for support at a Chilis gig, and not being a soul fan myself, he did put on a thoroughly good set and played some classics, such as I Feel Good, which not one in the audience could fail to recognise.

The Chilis themselves were obviously the highlight and were absolutely fantastic performers - although, as Giggly pointed out there was not much in the way of entertainment in terms of crowd interaction, apart from Flea's outstanding solos on drums and trumpet - although not many of them seemed to mind at all. Watch out for a new album soon though, cos they played a new song, which lived up to the expectations that the Chili Peppers have created for themselves.

All in all a fantastic day out, despite the sound being a bit quiet, and well worth the fiasco of trying to get a bus home when they shut the West Coast Mainline for engineering works, even though they had known for ages that there was a gig on.... Letter of complaint to Silverlink methinks.

Nice review Topher. Was the new song Kill for your Country? I managed to get a copy of that, which is really good. They have played five new songs around the tour, they played one called Shame at Murrayfield.

I didn't mind the not really talking to the crowd, but a few reviewers really panned them for it calling them Lukewarm Chili Peppers and things like that. Never mind, I will be looking forward to the live album in August, should be really good.

I wouldn't say too alternative, just untalented and crap. I know the Chilis are mainstream, but at least they have talent.

touche seb!!!

and bands like chicks on speed, i know they might be hard to appreciate if you only listen to corporate bands or bands trying to be corporate, but there's a whole world out there like them in the fact that they're doing different things. any time a band like them gets the opportunity to play on such a wide venue, it makes me happy to think, perhaps, it exposes people to something more "outside the box."

along the same lines, i can't stand it when people try to claim that they're better than somebody who listens to (some major lable success that is deemed plastic) because they listen to (some major lable success that is somehow deemed more alternative). again, outside the box. my cousin got mad when i told her, that her love of the goo goo dolls, limp bizkit, and tool was on par with our other cousin's love of brittany spears and hillary duff. i mean, i love robbie williams, and i'm not going to defend that.

RANT RANT RANT.

Read it again then. I meant as Sidla said. You may think someones opinion is wrong just because it is different from your own but they are still entitled to that opinion

i meant chilly as in cold. there are gales in portsmouth at the moment. gusts of up to 90mph inshore. i woke up this morning and the gazebo in the garden had been blown into our next door neighbours garden.

when good times go bad 7.

I don't only listen to corporate bands..I have a warped music taste fro Rammstein to Norah Jones and Alanis Morissette. IT's just whatever I like, not what everyone else likes, and thats the way music should be.

But yes, the Chilis do have a more universal appeal, but that is well deserved. I wish I was going to see them again..they better come back to Scotland soon.
