I can admit to having changed the head unit in mine and to fitting a CD changer... as well as a hands-free kit fer mah phone and a speed camera detector. Though I wouldn't say any of it was un-nesserccery (sp?) I tend to drive around a lot and most my music is on CD. Ain't done the black-out windows and fitting amps thing though. Just never had the urge (or money)...

What you're on about is a snooper, which detects signals that speed cameras give out I think - it also works for cop cars that have their radar on.

Aren't they planning to make them illegal?

I dunno the 'official' thinking behind them is that because speed cameras are generally put in accident hot spots, snoopers will cause people to slow down at these hot spots, thereby reducing road traffic accidents. You can get them in Halfords at the moment.

They work on GPS- the little box on the dash is traced by a satellite that "knows" where the cameras etc are. When you get close to one it send a signal to your roadangel, snooper, whatever to warn you. The ones that detect guns pick up the laser scatter as it bounces off the car in front, then sends a signal to jam the transmission as you go past. The gov't is trying to make snoopers etc illegal saying that people use them and slow down when they get to a speed camera. I personally thought the whole point of speed cameras WAS to slow people down...

Anyone know if it's possible for your speed to be detected by a police car going in the opposite direction?

I hope that's the layman's version cuz otherwise I'd hate to point out "the little box on the dash" actually does nothing of the sort...

And what's with the car in front? I've never needed anything in front to detect something on any of the K-bands or the laser...

Theoretically yeah it is. Though I think they'd just guess until they were travelling in the same direction basing their assumption on the movement of traffic around you...

Yeah I was doing 62 in what I thought was a 60, but it turned out to be a 50. Cop car went the other way, so im crapping myself everytime I get a "private" letter thru the door now!
