ok here goes. startup, everythings fine but then for no reason the screen goes to the wallpaper, nothing else until a internet page comes up and then it says it failed to connect box with "try again" or "stay offline" as the options. i chose stay offline but it wouldnt let me into windows. i restarted and the same thing happened. i went into safe mode and ran ad-aware and spybot and didnt really see anything of note and restarted and i was fine. everything seemed to be ok until i clicked my home page and it brought up an address that when clicked took me to a yahoo error page in spanish. i tried adaware again and it found 9 registry items changed so i deleted them. i tried spybot and it returned nothing. i saw a programme called bardiel.exe and thought it looked dodgy so i deleted it. i noticed it reappeared again and deleted it again, so far it hasnt returned. web pages seem to working fine until the very strange thing happens. i went to trend micro to do an online virus scan and it lost shut the page, i tried symantecs site and it shut the page. i even went into amazon and clicked to buy norton antivirus and it shut the page. it seems to shut any pages that refer to virus protection. does anyone know what the heck is going on. i cant do a virus check cos it wont let me, muggins here doesnt have a virus protector, and i cant buy one cos it wont let me.

Sounds like whatever has got onto your system has already run itself bob and the extent to which it has doesnt sound too good.

If it was me i'd format and start from scratch again (backing up of course). May take ages and be alot of hassel but that's computers for you.

if your not getting any icons or the taskbar up when you log on it sounds like its either deleted Explorer.exe, or blocked it from running, try get a hold of explorer.exe, (if not i can send)
If your running XP then i can help further, but if not, then not...
I had this problem once btw...

right
its a trojan and its a bugger to get rid of.
it has a thing whereby it locks up things such as regedit so you cant edit the registry and virus checkers too.

Bob, you're always having computer problems. have you not thought about investing in some security - it'll save you a lot less hassle in the future.

i did on the pc, bought norton antivirus and the computer decided it didnt like me anymore and decided to go into permanent hibernation.

im trying to buy flippin norton now for this but this trojan acts as a shutter if you type in norton or any other virus scanner.

Norton is lame, you get free updates for a year and after that it keeps pestering you to update. For about £30 I don't think so, not when AVG is perfectly good and doesn't cost a penny, updates and all.

Couldn't have put it better myself... same applies to ZoneAlarm (google it or Zonelabs) too IMO.
