Following numerous recent arguments about people's use of grammar and spelling on the board, I thought it was time to find out for sure what the general consensus actually was. Vote now.

More to the point, why do people feel the need to NOT spell things correctly and use the correct grammar? Is it because they're too lazy to bother or is it because they're iliterate? It amazes me how many people don't seem to know the difference between basic words such as their, there and they're (for example). I don't accept the argument that it's quicker to type a message if you don't bother with grammar and spelling - this isn't an IRC channel so it's not an issue of having to type quickly to keep up with the conversation. It's the same with Email, for some reason people don't seem to bother, yet if you're writing a letter to someone using a pen and paper you would.

i think sod it but it is valid to pick on someone illiteracy if you are:

1) losing an argument
2) pissed off with the other person
3) drunk

Realistically your supposed to "check your work" as one of my old teachers would say, but as if your going to read back through what youve just put until you hit the post button, and even if you spot a mistake then your hardly going to care, unless it makes your post somewhat confusing.

In my own opinion, the odd spelling mistake doesn't matter, afterall I can't say we should all spell correctly because I can't spell everyone right.

But as long as I can read the message and there is no text talk then everything should be fine. And, if your message is a long post, spread it out, create new lines. I cant stand messages where everything is in the same paragraph.

i rarely look over my reviews for spelling. I never learnt from my English teacher in that respect. It doesnt help though when I have a shitty £12.99 keyboard that chooses not to type the letter S or N when you press their buttons.

I've got an old serial keyboard gathering dust under my bed...

Come to think of it, I've got a PC box under there too, and a spare mouse. There's a load of expansion cards and spare HDD's lurking around my bedroom too... I have a project for tomorrow then, build the best PC I can out of the bits of crap I have lying around my room....
