Well, I think that the song has been played way too much lately and it really starting to grate on me, so I reckon... No.1!

Is it actually a proud moment to be number one anymore, I mean after things like 'Is this the way to Amarillo' and (Insert name of whatever the crazy Frog record was called), is it really such a big deal.

id say stereophonics made a big deal when after 8 years they finally got a number 1

been re-released
already 2 singles have went in top 10 for an indie band so 3rd single usually charts badly.
its achieving its position in downloads at moment and it probably still will.
the album is top 3 and been in the chart for quite a while, so whats the point in buying single when you got the album

Wasn't it already re-released 2 weeks ago. It definatly re-charted in the top 40 a couple of sundays ago at number 20 odd

The reason why 'I Predict a Riot' is already in the chart is because copies of when it was first released last year will still be available in the shops and it's already available to download. Rules state that records cannot enter the chart unless there are physical copies on sale in the shops.

I agree it's not a big thing to go to number one and I agree about Crazy Frog but I think Amarillo is a bad example to be fair...

I doubt there were enough copies left in the shops from it go to nowhere to 20 in just one week. Yes there are downloads, but the downloads haven't physically be re-released so it's still wierd.

It was re-released a couple of weeks ago. In like a bullet at number 31.

I thought it was, but HMV's website says today. I also doubt that existing copies gained enough momentum to propel it back into the top 40. Perhaps some shops released it a couple of weeks early - that has happened on occasion causing artists to chart before singles are actually released.

I like the way the thread title is "Where do you genuinely believe 'I Predict a Riot will reach?" - As if the word genuine makes us all tell the truth that much more.

That's because some shops, like HMV, sell imported copies. Singles are never on sale in shops before their release date, apart from re-releases.

Imported copies don't count towards the chart though.

They do, or at least they used to. Mambo No. 5 got into the charts weeks before it was released because of import sales.

Imported copies do count.

The chart this year has been a joke.. these are the number ones since January:

Steve Brookstein - Against All Odds (1 week)
Elvis - Jailhouse Rock (1)
Elvis - One Night (1)
Ciara - Goodies (1)
Elvis - It's Now Or Never (1)
Eminem - Like Toy Soldiers (1)
U2 - Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own (1)
Jennifer Lopez - Get Right (1)
Nelly - Over And Over (1)
Stereophonics - Dakota (1)
McFly - All About You (1)
Tony Christie - Amarillo (7)
Akon - Lonely (2)
Oasis - Lyla (1)
Crazy Frog - Axel F (4)
2Pac - Ghetto Gospel (3)
James Blunt - You're Beautiful (5)
McFly - I'll Be Ok (1)

I can spot four good songs in them lot..

I see three,
U2 - Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
Tony Christie - Amarillo
Oasis - Lyla

and I don't think the U2 or Oasis ones are their best recent work, but still like them enough.

The Elvis ones don't count as that's just a cash-in. I think I'm the only one on here who liked Toy Soldiers.

Out of them I've never heard of Steve Brookstein or Ciara and had no idea J-Lo had a single out recently. I'm so out of touch.

It was that annoying one that had the saxaphone wailing all the way through it. I only remember it because I spent a night in York at a club called the Gallery and it came on.

Scott Mills likened it to the Benny Hill theme tune.
