Google talk is lauched today. It'll take a while for them to get to the level of MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger but it looks pretty good.

You never know. Google have taken on some big projects - Google Earth for example. MSN are trying to counteract this by bring out a a smiliar product to Google Earth.

There's no stopping them - I think it'll become popular as time goes by.

I'm not sure if this will take off either. Ok, so they took on Hotmail with Gmail because that had more free space to offer. What does this have that MSNM doesn't?

It's useful for people who have a passionate hate for Microsoft.. However as nearly everyone uses MSNM and only a small minority use Yahoo - Google could take some of the share after some time.

No, you have to have a gmail account to use it. This is partly to stop spammers accessing the network, as people need to be invited to join GMail. Actually, if anyone wants a gmail account I have a bunch of invites.

As it says on the Beeb's news article it seems that Google are almost creating an online operating system, providing people with all the services they need in one place.

Their products are good and they have a very clean-cut appearance, as opposed to shoddy Microsoft

Yeah, I do prefer Google to microsoft in general, but at the moment I don't see anything special about this talk thing. Maybe when they add some more features it'll start to pick up

Same as Gmail though, nothing fancy, just a good, solid service.

This talk thing may have the good service Gmail does, but at the moment the solid service alone isn't enough alone to make me switch

Well, I don't use the Official GTalk client, but it runs on the Jabber protocol, so any Jabber capable IM client will do, like Gaim!
