Need some help here, I'm gonna buy a laptop with some of my student loan and I'm not that knowledgeable about computers. Are these two an good? Which one is the best?

It depends on what you want it for. For example, the second one has the better specs, but it doesn't have an ethernet port.

I'm doing HND Art & Design so I'll be using it for arty and graphic design stuff and mucking around in Photoshop. Might possibly use it for t'internet and games.

Both laptops are actually very similar, and the price difference isn't enough to make a difference. From a graphics standpoint, the first laptop, with the 64-bit processor, will probably be the best.

Out of curiosity, why are you going for a laptop? Does it need to be portable? If not I'd recommend going for a desktop, as they are cheaper, more powerful and more flexible.

Needs to be portable so I can take it to college and back, and there is no room in my bedroom for a desktop. I'm also getting advice on this from Loz of all people.

There's no reason Downcount can't use Linux, but he'll have to be willing to put time in to learn it. It's a totally different OS, while some of the GUI aspects of it are similar to Windows, most of the other aspects are completely foreign, not bad, just different,

If you are used to Windows, Linux would be a very foolish move IMO. Very difficult to get it set up and get everything working properly.
