Well, I must say, with all the experience I've had on holidays in Scotland, not only have the Scottish been excellent hosts, but more often than not they have been generous too, (I think the misconception that Scottish people are tight is because they are 1) careful with their money and don't seem to buy as many pointless things as middle class english do and 2) if they don't get value for money, then they will say something about it!)
Whilst Holidaying on the Isle of Skye many many years ago, we went into a bar, the Landlord was playing cards with a friend, and asked my stepfather if he could pull a pint, when he answered yes, he said go on then, get yourself and "your lady" a drink, and get something for the laddie...... and as I'm winning this round, it's on the house!
The last holiday we had in Scotland was during the 2000 fuel crisis (I think it was near a place called Dunoon???), strange thing was there was no shortage at all there, no price hikes either.
But what a long long journey it was to drive back to Somerset, only allowed £15.00 each time, so lots of stops.
