The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Now this is interesting. Suddenly through the grapevine I get reports of people (including myself) being banned from posting on the site and also peoples e-mail addresses being posted on the message board. A few points...

1) This is a message board for fans of a DJ who says some pretty offensive and objectional things. The DJ in question takes freedom of speech to the extreme, yet his webpage bans people for doing exactly the same thing. Very similar to a communist regime - you have freedom of speech as long as what you say is pre-arranged and is acceptable to those in control. How democratic.

2) Short and sweet - posting people's e-mail addresses without their permission is breaking the Data Protection Act. They could sue you. You could go to jail.

3) Where has the spirit of reasoned argument gone. I got banned even though some people on the website agreed with me. In fact I got banned for telling people to make up their own minds rather than just believing what Mr Moyles told them. Not just communism but brain washing too?

4) It appears the administrators here are a little bit power mad. Be careful people, next time the administrators tell you to get on your hands and knees and ****, you'd best be doing it or else he'll post your e-mail address on the board to illustrate that you have free will, and then ban you.

If you're interested, I can be contacted at mailto:[email protected] - just to save Chris the Demigod the trouble...

Explain to me the maturity in banning those with free will. Explain to me the adulthood in not answering the arguments put to you, but inviting others to do your bidding for you by issuing contact details.

For the information of those slightly more enlightened souls... you can contact me on either e-mail address. Unfortunately, Chris the Ego had to ban TheMustGetBeer for daring to criticise 'The Mighty Moyles'. I expect that this handle will also get banned, which is a shame because I feel I have a lot to offer this message board. Like, oh I don't know, an opinion maybe?

The board is a friendly place. It's not a home for fans of monosyllabic garage geeks to slag someone off just because they're bored waiting for their mums to come home and cook them tea. Piss off to your own board and waste someone elses time.

Correct...but incorrect. Firstly the board has to be registered as a data protection user. If you notcie you have actualy made your email address public but reigstering and allowing us to see it in the first place. If you wanted it to remain private, you would change your personal settings. There had been absolutely no breach in any way shape of form of the 1998 Data Protection Act.

OK. I have been visiting this site on and off for a while. Not because I like Chris Moyles but becuse I am interested in other peoples opinions of him. In fact I tend to agree on the whole with the "raiding party" as opposed to the regulars. I hope this does not result in my opinion also being censored! A comment that begins "The board is a friendly place" should go on to explain why and perhaps how someone CAN go about airing their views on this board, however it goes on "It's not a home for fans of monosyllabic garage geeks to slag someone off just because they're bored waiting for their mums to come home and cook them tea. Piss off to your own board and waste someone elses time". With the responsibility of administration of this site comes a need for control and maturity, neither of which I have seen demonstrated here today. Would I be correct in assuming negativity of any kind towards Chris Moyles is unwelcome? Would I also be correct in assuming that message boards were created so that people could air their views and discuss good or bad points of the topic in hand? I apologise that the subject matter in this case is not Chris Moyles and hope that my (private) email details are not published. I look forward to your thoughts.

right well here goes

1/ Chris has issued access to members only which is about 50 i think at the moment. People can ask him if they want access to it if they really want to.
2/ their argument was that hes fat. What sort of argument is that. Yes hes fat next. We have have been through that many times. We are bored by you people so Chris had to take necessary measures. There is a difference between freedom of speech and flooding and taking the piss to look cool.
3/ this is a unofficial FAN site, you can set up an unofficial hate site if you want, noone is stopping you, go ahead.

just a couple of points I wanted to share.

CHRIS can do what the hell he likes to the memebers of the board insofar ass banning ect. coz it's his board, what he says goes. You can't realy compare a bb to a communist government. If you say something that the peeps in charge aren't happy with then it's bye bye, That's made clear in the registration agreement. Wether it's right for people to be banned because they posted something that someone doesn't like or agree with isn't the issue, this board isn't your life and there's nothing to stop you seeting up a rival board of some sort. Having said that I don't see much in the way of maturity throghout the recent actions of those involved but that's nota crime. OK, I'm starting to waffle (always happens when I start to type) but basicaly I just wanna say get over it. So you've been banned, move on. There are worse things that happen in the world.

the truth (& others).

I'm all for people having their own views - if you want to have a measured discussion about Moyles then please do so, if you want to hurl abuse for people having different views to you (and in the process use profane language) then you will be banned - this is in fact what you were banned for.

Chris, I very much appreciate the mature response above. I also accept the fact that this is a fan site. I guess my point is that (in all areas of life) I dont like to see people closing themselves off from others opinions. Life would be very easy (and boring) if one were never challenged on a point that they beleive in. I think that conversation (in any form) is very fulfilling, regardless of whether you see eye to eye come the conclusion. It doesnt have to be an argument. The point is to broaden ones horizons, being confident in your opinion and fighting for what you beleive in. If you can hold your hand up and say that you do the above then I welcome your input.

It's a shame that Chris felt he had to take the measures he did (banning peolpe, making the members only section accessible only to those hand-picked by himself etc) but I think he was right to do those things; no-one wants to visit a board that has been flooded with cheap insults, or whatever.

I'm all for open-minded conversation and freedom of speech, after all, we've all seen what happens when living by the rules of a dictatorship (Chris - I'm not trying to call you Stalin or anything here) - as long as the debate is handled with a mature attitude there shouldn't be any problems.

God I sound like a boring old fart...

It's a 'regulars' section. Become regular, gain access. The initial cut has been based purely on post-count.

With the board open (viewable) by anyone I have a responsibility to moderate the tone and language of the public side of the board. This is actually both a moral - and legal - issue. If someone can hold a discussion then go ahead, people here are coherent enough to put forth their side. If someone wants to throw insults using abusive language, and issue personal insults then action will be taken. The action is to remove their right to free speech -on this board-. They can say what they like, about who they like elsewhere - and will live by any consequences.

This board is not the whole world. A ban from here is not the end of the right to free speech - however much people may make it out to be.

Please stay, be happy, be calm.

One thing I notice from reading the aforementioned thread is that they all think chrismoyles.net Chris is Radio 1 Chris. Which is fun.

Oh, and I don't really see why messageboard members from a Streets fansite feel the need to infiltrate this messageboard and incite arguments - reasonable or otherwise - when all Chris (Moyles) did was air a rather amusing parody which somebody else, completely unconnected with the show, sent in. Seems a bit pointless. - jc

To all the Streets fans, iam openly a fan of The Streets even though the majority of this message board aren't. I think that coming on to this message board and attacking it is a little bit silly, fairplay i have been responsable for attacking other boards but LeeBrennan is a twat. Now just because Chris Moyles doesn't like The Streets it doesn't mean that we don't like the streets so coming on here and slagging of Moyles is a worthless cause. If however you want to argue with people who give a * go to Moyles Official message board situated at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1

The streets fans are hypercritical, they slag us for posting on a geek fan site when they have their own geek mike skinner worship site.
